Overview Family Promise of Essex County (FPE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families overcome or avoid the crisis of homelessness. FPE seeks a skilled community engagement and volunteer management professional to fill the role of Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator. The Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator (CEC) is responsible for building community awareness, engagement and support for FPE through volunteer engagement, partnership development, community outreach, and public education initiatives. The CEC has experience working with diverse socio-economic communities, skills in community organizing and volunteer management, and an awareness of the social service resources in the community. This is a full-time position reporting to the Development Director. Job Duties and Responsibilities- Ability to write and speak passionately about what's needed to reduce homelessness and poverty in the local community.
- Identify opportunities for Family Promise participation in community events, fairs, service projects, and volunteer recruitment opportunities.
- Represent FPE at community events and speak publicly to community groups, schools, and other organizations about the work of FPE as needed.
- Maintain and grow a volunteer program that supports Family Promise's shelter, housing stabilization, youth and family, tax assistance, and special event initiatives.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with Family Promise's network of congregational partners and support efforts to recruit and engage new faith communities.
- Maintain volunteer records and track volunteer participation, service hours, and engagement activities and oversee office volunteers.
- Coordinate Family Promise's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, including recruitment, scheduling, and management of volunteers.
- Oversee coordination and volunteers for summer enrichment events, holiday events, interfaith hospitality network hosting and other FPE events.
- Develop and implement volunteer recognition and appreciation initiatives to strengthen retention and engagement.
- Recognize and acknowledge community partners and volunteer contributions to FPE.
- Work with the Development Director to strengthen, evaluate, and expand volunteer and community engagement initiatives. Assist with social media coordination.
- Work occasional flexible hours (nights/weekends) as needed to meet with families, volunteers, or staff or to attend community networking or outreach events.
- All other duties as assigned by FPE.
