Position Summary The Senior Director, State Government Affairs will guide and represent the company on state legislative affairs with elected officials and state agencies. Working closely with Albertsons' regional business divisions and corporate regulatory affairs, the Director will build and maintain relationships with governments, trade associations, industry coalitions, to influence policies and positions. The goal of this role is to create meaningful partnerships. The Senior Director will be focused on engaging in the development and implementation of legislation, policies, regulations and programs aligned with the company's strategic interests. This role will report to the Vice President Government Affairs and be based in our Clackamas, OR office location, with an in-office requirement for four days and one flex day of work.
Main responsibilities:
Guide the state and local public affairs teams across Albertsons business divisions Advocate before government officials, policy makers and their staff Research, monitor, track and analyze current and proposed state legislation, and policies Manage involvement with external government affairs consultants and other companies and guide state political giving Design plans for government outreach through research and preparation of position papers, policy briefings, presentations, related to government actions Develop legislative and regulatory agendas on a wide range of policy issues Monitor, anticipate, and understand state and local legislative and regulatory policy activities to develop recommendations and prepare communications to strategically shape our positions, advocacy, and response Support internal stakeholders including senior management to appropriately engage government officials and support policy initiatives We are looking for candidates who possess the following: Ability to persuasively communicate company positions to government officials A track record of cultivating positive, trusted working relationships with state and local government officials with a reputation for integrity and follow through Ability to anticipate emerging government issues of importance to the business and to position the company effectively Experience researching and analyzing public policy issues Understanding of compliance laws governing corporate political activities Familiarity with retail or food industry is preferred We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience: 10 plus years of relevant experience with government affairs, public policy, in both the public and/or private sector Experience in developing and implementing a state and local government affairs program A comprehensive understanding of the operation of U.S. state/local policy making process Demonstrated experience working directly with senior executives and government officials, including advocating at state and local government levels Bachelor's Degree, preferably in public affairs or political science Strong written and verbal communications skills, ability to work as a team player We also provide a variety of benefits including: Competitive wages paid weekly • Access to up to 50% of your earned wages before payday, via our partnership with Stream Associate discounts Health and financial well-being benefits for eligible associates (Medical, Dental, 401k and more!)
