Full-Time Marketing and Communications Manager Description:
Powers Music School seeks an energetic and multi-talented individual to lead its promotional and community building efforts. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing and Communications Manager will work directly with the school's leadership to create and implement effective strategies to build awareness of Powers' brand to increase enrollment, and foster a sense of belonging for students, parents, faculty, and the community at large. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
  • Crafting consistent, well-defined messages for current and prospective students and families, as well as the wider community, to ensure sufficient enrollment and attendance for lessons, classes, festivals, events and school-wide initiatives.
  • Creating and implementing a plan to effectively deliver messaging, which could include a mix of email, social media, print media, direct mail, and other channels.
  • Creating and maintaining communication calendars to ensure content is deployed to a wide range of audiences as needed and on schedule.
  • Updating and maintaining the Powers website, including faculty bios, program and event descriptions, webforms, calendars, and integration with registration and online donation systems
  • Planning promotional events including area Town Days in Belmont and surrounding communities and the school's Annual Open House.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, crafting two annual fundraising appeals, the school's annual report, and occasional grant applications.
  • Gathering feedback to ensure program content and messaging are aligned.
  • Outreach to press outlets, area businesses, and influencers to build awareness and strategic partnerships to grow Powers brand.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in marketing or communications, or equivalent experience, is required. 2-3 years' experience in non-profit marketing, communications or fundraising is preferred. Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and a proven track record of strong project management skills. Knowledge of, or background in music, is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as experience with graphic design. Excellent computer/technology skills - Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Constant Contact, Photoshop, InDesign, Canva, etc. and strong understanding of social media platforms. The successful candidate will be outgoing, organized, creative, patient, detail oriented, and enjoy working with a small team of thoughtful and caring colleagues. This is a full-time exempt position, 40 hours per week; Typical hours are Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. with some evening and weekend hours. Alternative schedules are possible, including a limited amount of work from home hours. However, working on-site each week and being at some school events that may fall outside the regular workday is a requirement of this position.

Organization:
Powers is a community music school located in Belmont, Massachusetts, which is about 10 miles west of downtown Boston. Powers has seven full-time staff and a faculty of nearly 70 teaching artists. We serve over 1,000 students each week in private lessons and group classes during the school year and over the summer we offer six full and half-day programs in addition to lessons and classes. Students range in age from infants to older adults with the bulk of our students being school-aged. We are located in a 13,000 square foot facility located at 160 Lexington St. in Belmont with a large parking lot. We are accessible the MTA bus routes 73 from Cambridge and 554 from Watertown/Waltham as well as Waverley Station on the Fitchburg commuter rail line.
