The Opportunity Fellowship Square is looking for a thoughtful, creative, and highly organized communications professional who can take ownership of an important organization-wide function. This hands-on manager will coordinate communications across Headquarters and all four Fellowship Houses—three managed directly by Fellowship Square and one managed by an external partner—while creating strong digital and print content for residents, staff, donors, volunteers, partners, Boards, and the wider community. The right candidate will bring sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and the confidence to move projects forward independently. You will work closely with Resident Services Coordinators and colleagues across the organization, listen carefully, bring structure to competing needs, and turn ideas into polished communications without requiring extensive day-to-day oversight. Compensation and Benefits The position offers an annual salary of $75,000 and a robust benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage; an HSA option; a retirement savings plan; paid time off; and organization-observed holidays. Benefits are subject to plan eligibility and terms. About Fellowship Square For more than six decades, Fellowship Square has provided affordable housing and supportive programs that help older adults with limited incomes live with dignity, connection, and greater independence. We serve approximately 850 residents from diverse, multicultural backgrounds across the Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland region. What You Will Own Organization-wide communications : Coordinate and strengthen internal and external communications across Headquarters and all four Fellowship Houses, working with internal staff and the external management partner as appropriate. Content and storytelling : Write, edit, design, and publish newsletters, email campaigns, social media content, flyers, presentations, fact sheets, stories, and fundraising materials. Social media and digital engagement : Manage content calendars, create platform-appropriate content, build engagement, monitor performance, and recommend improvements. Brand quality : Maintain practical standards, templates, and review processes that help communications developed across the organization remain clear, accessible, professional, and consistent. Resident communications coordination : Partner closely with Resident Services Coordinators to gather local content, anticipate communication needs, and support consistent resident-facing materials. Public relations and visibility : I dentify opportunities for media coverage, awards, speaking engagements, community partnerships, and mission-centered storytelling. Results and improvement : Track performance, identify what is working, and bring practical recommendations forward to leadership. How the Role Works You will directly produce Fellowship Square's core communications while giving colleagues clear tools and guidance for routine communications. Approved templates and standards will allow everyday House communications to move efficiently, while significant, public-facing, or organization-wide messages will receive appropriate coordination and review. You are not expected to be a specialist in every discipline. Outside partners may support major design, website, video, or advertising projects; you will coordinate the work and protect quality and consistency. What You Bring Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, public relations, digital content, or a closely related field. Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and message-development skills, with the ability to adjust tone and content for different audiences. Demonstrated experience managing organizational social media channels, content calendars, campaigns, and performance reporting. Hands-on graphic design capability and experience creating polished day-to-day digital and print materials. Advanced design specialization is not required. The ability to independently prioritize work, manage deadlines and review cycles, solve problems, and deliver audience-ready work with limited supervision. Strong interpersonal communication, listening, tact, and relationship-building skills across departments, locations, and professional perspectives. Working proficiency with Microsoft 365, Canva or a comparable design platform, email marketing tools, social media publishing and analytics tools, WordPress or a similar content management system, and basic photo or video editing tools. Especially Valuable Communications or marketing experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization. Experience in affordable housing, senior services, human services, or another community-serving field. Familiarity with Google Analytics, Google Ad Grants, paid digital campaigns, media relations, vendor management, photography, video, or Adobe Creative Cloud. You May Be a Strong Fit If You see an assignment, understand the goal, and can recommend a path forward rather than waiting for every step to be defined. You care about both the message and the details—grammar, layout, tone, timing, audience, and accessibility. You can give respectful guidance, receive feedback, and build trust with people working in different roles and locations. You enjoy balancing creativity with structure, can keep multiple projects moving, and believe communications should represent residents and communities with dignity. Application Materials Please submit a resume, a brief cover letter, and three to five relevant work samples, such as social media content, email campaigns, newsletters, flyers, presentations, or writing. Please identify your role in collaborative projects. We are an equal opportunity employer. We consider applicants for all positions without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital or veteran status, disability or any other legally protected status, including genetic information.
