Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and strategic State Affairs Director to lead our efforts in shaping public policy, fostering stakeholder engagement, and advancing our organizational goals at the state level. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the primary liaison between our organization and government agencies, legislators, media outlets, and community groups. Your expertise in public affairs, legislative processes, and strategic communication will drive impactful advocacy campaigns, elevate our presence in state policy discussions, and build robust coalitions that support our mission. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence policy outcomes while leading a dedicated team committed to excellence in government relations and public engagement. Responsibilities Develop and execute comprehensive state-level public affairs strategies aligned with organizational objectives. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with legislators, government officials, media representatives, and community stakeholders to promote organizational priorities. Lead legislative research and analysis to identify opportunities and challenges affecting the organization's interests. Craft compelling press releases, policy briefs, speeches, and social media content to communicate key messages effectively. Manage media relations by coordinating interviews, press conferences, and public appearances to enhance visibility. Oversee coalition building efforts by collaborating with diverse organizations and grassroots communities to strengthen advocacy initiatives. Lead cross-functional teams in planning campaigns, managing budgets, and evaluating program effectiveness to ensure strategic impact. Represent the organization at public hearings, industry forums, and community events to advocate for policies that align with organizational values. Collaborate closely with legal teams on legislative drafting, regulatory compliance, and legal considerations related to policy initiatives. Monitor legislative developments and conduct policy research to inform advocacy strategies and position statements. Experience Proven experience in government affairs or public policy advocacy within a governmental or nonprofit setting. Demonstrated success in media relations, public speaking engagements, and social media management for advocacy purposes. Strong background in legislative affairs including policy analysis, legal drafting, and stakeholder engagement. Experience in coalition building, grassroots organizing, and cross-sector collaboration. Excellent communication skills with the ability to craft clear messaging for diverse audiences. Leadership experience managing teams focused on strategic planning, project execution, and budget oversight. Familiarity with government agency operations and government advocacy strategies is highly desirable. Ability to analyze legislation critically while developing effective lobbying strategies that support organizational goals. Pay:
$50.00 - $75.00 per hour Expected hours: No more than 30.0 per week
