Job Title:
Director of Advancement (Contract) Job Description The Contract Director of Advancement will provide expert, immediate leadership for a critical 9-month engagement to drive our $75 million capital campaign. This interim executive role focuses strictly on campaign execution, major donor cultivation, and development operations. Marketing and Admissions operations are managed independently by other senior leaders, allowing this role to focus 100% on philanthropic revenue. This position is compensated via a fixed monthly retainer. Job Responsibilities $40M Capital Campaign Acceleration Drive campaign strategy to advance toward the $75 million goal, managing the gift pipeline and tracking key cultivation milestones. Solicit major gifts ranging from six to seven figures by personally engaging high-net-worth alumni, current families, and foundations. Support the Head of School and Board Trustees by scheduling, prepping, and participating in high-value donor solicitations. Lead the Campaign Committee, managing volunteer assignments, organizing meetings, and providing strategic direction to committee members. Ensure all campaign activities, donor cultivations, and gift agreements strictly comply with legal, ethical, and regulatory fundraising standards. Development Operations & Governance Supervise fundraising staff, maintaining continuity across annual giving programs, alumni relations, and advancement events. Audit pledge tracking within the donor database (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Veracross) to ensure campaign projections and fulfillment schedules are accurate. Provide monthly reports for the CFO and Head of School meetings regarding the campaign, outstanding pledges, and pipeline health. Community & Stakeholder Communications Refine campaign messaging, ensuring cases for support, proposals, and gift agreements strictly align with the $75M campaign priorities. Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing to ensure consistent institutional branding across all campaign-related print and digital collateral Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPA, or related) preferred. Minimum 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in advancement, fundraising, or advancement, preferably within independent schools or nonprofit organizations. Proven success leading major capital campaigns and comprehensive fundraising programs. Exceptional strategic planning and organizational skills, with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans. Superior communication skills, with an assured public presence and the ability to engage effectively with trustees, donors, parents, faculty, and community leaders. Demonstrated ability to cultivate and steward major gifts and build meaningful donor relationships. Experience managing and developing high-performing teams with a collaborative leadership style. Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, financial forecasting, and interpreting financial reports. Familiarity with donor management software (e.g., Blackbaud/Raiser's Edge) and data-driven fundraising strategies. Integrity, discretion, and a passion for the School's mission and values.
