Job Description

The City of Lampasas is currently accepting applications for a Police Communications Officer. Summary of Position Performs specialized emergency call-taking, dispatching, and various clerical work for the city's law enforcement, fire/rescue, and county wide EMS services, and non-emergency situations, including monitoring and coordinating telephone, radio, and teletype communications between unit personnel and among the general public. Must be able to work shift work, to include nights, weekends, and holidays. Starting salary is $18.50/hour, DOQ, plus excellent benefits.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of:
emergency dispatch procedures; courteous and professional telephone etiquette; computers; and standard office practices and procedures.
Skill/Ability to:
perform multiple tasks simultaneously; work effectively under emergency and high stress conditions; read and understand manuals, letters, and memos; write letters, memos, and accurate telephone messages; operate office equipment, such as copy machine and facsimile machine; communicate effectively, both in person and over the radio; and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Acceptable Experience and Training o High school diploma or GED; o or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certificates and Licenses Required o Must be able to pass extensive background and employment psychological exam o Must be able to obtain Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) certification; o Must be able to obtain
NCIC/TCIC
certifications; o Must be able to obtain Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification; o Must be able to obtain Basic Telecommunications Course (1013); and o
CPR / TCPR
