Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Engagement Peer Support Specialist to empower individuals navigating behavioral health challenges. In this vital role, you will serve as a relatable advocate and mentor, leveraging your personal recovery experience to foster hope, resilience, and community connection. Your energetic approach will help bridge gaps between individuals and available resources, promoting recovery and well-being within diverse communities. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting those with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders through compassionate peer support and crisis intervention. Duties Provide peer-led support to individuals experiencing mental health or substance use challenges, sharing personal recovery stories to inspire hope. Engage with clients in community settings, offering mentorship, motivational interviewing, and harm reduction strategies to promote recovery goals. Assist clients in developing coping skills, crisis management techniques, and relapse prevention plans through active listening and behavioral health expertise. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans while maintaining strict confidentiality of client information within electronic health record (EHR) systems. Facilitate group activities and outreach events that foster social connection, cultural competence, and community integration for diverse populations. Conduct crisis intervention when necessary, de-escalating situations with empathy and professionalism to ensure client safety. Advocate for clients' needs by connecting them with appropriate community resources, housing services, treatment programs, and support networks. Requirements Personal experience with mental health conditions or substance use recovery that demonstrates resilience and the ability to serve as a positive role model. Knowledge of behavioral health principles, addiction counseling, harm reduction practices, and crisis management techniques. Experience working with culturally diverse communities and understanding of social determinants impacting mental health. Strong communication skills for client engagement, client advocacy, and team collaboration. Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws and organizational policies. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation purposes. Certification or training in motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, or peer support advocacy is preferred but not required; relevant experience is highly valued. Pay:
$15.00 - $17.00 per hour
