Job Description

The Sports Relations Manager provides leadership and strategic oversight of Chesterfield County's local athletics program, community sports partnerships, and sports-related initiatives, ensuring exceptional experiences for participants while advancing programs and events that enhance quality of life, strengthen community engagement, and generate visitation and economic impact.
Here's What You Need :
Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management or related field; 5 years of experience in recreation or athletic program planning and management; or an equivalent combination of training and experience, and 1-3 years of supervisory experience is required. Experience in managing partnerships; facility scheduling; and even logistics is preferred. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

This position plays a critical role in overseeing Chesterfield County's local athletics operations, community sports partnerships, and sports-related initiatives. The position balances the needs of local sports organizations, schools, County departments, and facility users while managing staff, facility utilization, scheduling priorities, revenue generation, and customer service. The role also supports the development and operation of tournaments and special events that enhance resident quality of life and create visitation and economic impact for the County. Success requires strategic leadership, strong relationship management, sound financial oversight, and the ability to align community sports needs with broader County goals and available resources. Performs other work as required. We're looking for someone who can walk in on their first day and start to figure things out - taking the lead to learn our organization's operations and begin building relationships. That said, we will always support you and offer guidance, but there is expectation to work quickly and independently to turn around assignments. What about the office ?
