Troy - T01 Job Summary The Communication Coordinator for the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences works closely with the Dean, department chairs, faculty, and other stakeholders under the direction of the Office of University Relations to develop and distribute strategic communications that advance public awareness of the College's mission, programs, and impact. This position supports the College's communications and media relations efforts by assisting with media inquiries, helping pitch faculty expertise and College initiatives, and coordinating with the University Relations office to generate positive external media coverage. The Communication Coordinator also assists with creating and maintaining content for the College's website and social media channels and serves as a liaison with the Marketing and Communications office to facilitate requests and ensure compliance with University brand guidelines. Key Responsibilities and Deliverables The Communication Coordinator will focus on the following core areas: Writing and Content Creation Write news releases, feature stories, web content, and other communications materials highlighting faculty, students, programs, and initiatives Edit content for clarity, accuracy, tone, and Associated Press style Assist with internal and external communications as needed Social Media, Web, and Marketing Support Assist with developing and managing content for the College's social media channels in alignment with University strategy Create engaging digital content to support recruitment, outreach, and reputation-building efforts Update and maintain College web pages using the University's content management system Coordinate with the University's Marketing and Communications office on campaigns, requests, and brand compliance Media Relations and Public Relations Assist with media relations efforts, including responding to inquiries and coordinating interviews Support efforts to pitch faculty experts, research, and College initiatives to local, regional, and national media Assist with media monitoring and reporting Provide basic event coverage, including photography and limited video support as needed Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications, or a closely related field Experience in a news, public relations/media relations, or marketing role Demonstrated understanding of news value and how media organizations operate Experience creating and managing social media content in a professional or academic setting Strong writing and editing skills for print, web, and social media, with a working knowledge of Associated Press style Photography skills suitable for basic news gathering and event coverage Strong time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines Preferred Qualifications Two or more years of experience in a newsroom, public relations, or media relations role Experience using media monitoring or public relations platforms such as Cision or Meltwater Experience shooting and editing basic video content Familiarity with social media monitoring, analytics, or performance measurement Experience updating web content using a content management system Experience writing or producing content related to education or higher education Will this position require driving (personal vehicle, university vehicle, utility vehicle, or golf cart) in order to perform the job duties? Driving may be necessary but is not a primary responsibility
Work Hours:
