Worcester, MAOVERVIEW:
The Senior Video Specialist will oversee the day to day operations of video production for the WPS Communications Department and logistical operations of Worcester Educational Access Television (WEA-TV) under the direction of the Chief Communications Officer. The Senior Video Specialist proactively generates video content production ideas and strategies and stays current on emerging trends in digital content production.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Proactively generates video and digital content ideas and projects to meet the communications needs of WPS; stays current on emerging trends and best practices in digital content production with an emphasis on websites, social media, and other digital platforms through adoption of a digital first approach
  • Leads operation of WEA-TV and ensures uninterrupted, reliable broadcast to Charter Spectrum Channel 191 and internet livestream. This includes the live broadcast of all regular and standing Worcester School Committee public meetings.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of the technical aspects of broadcasting live meetings to ensure all meetings are covered as scheduled and uninterrupted. (See more details below.
  • Proactively manages station funds for equipment, maintenance, etc
  • Manages two staff members
  • Proactively develops station operational plans on a quarterly basis in collaboration with the Chief Communications Officer
  • Serves as a liaison to City Cable Services and the City Hall Information Technology Department
TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Experience producing effective video content for digital platforms for medium to large organizations that meets strategic needs
  • Experience using analytics and data to guide video content strategy for maximum effectiveness
  • Strong experience video editing and using editing software, such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe
  • Experience with audio and video signal flow from source to output for live broadcasts
  • Experience maintaining video playback servers such as Cablecast or Telvue
  • Experience maintaining livestreams of live broadcasts to websites and YouTube
  • Understanding of how the server communicates to YouTube
  • Basic knowledge of video playback servers and backup drives/b-roll library
  • Experience and understanding of file formats for cable television vs. internet platforms
  • Understanding of lighting techniques
  • Understanding of wireless microphone and wireless video signal transmission functioning
  • Experience and strong skills with preproduction planning, script writing, interviewing
  • Experience with pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras for filming and/or live broadcasts of productions, graduation ceremonies, or public meetings
  • Experience using Cannon and JVC camcorders
  • Strong experience and skills with graphic design and visual branding production and best practices for video and television
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, paying close attention to grammar
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience managing staff and budgeting for a small department
  • Five years of experience in the field(s) of video production
  • Experience in video production for marketing, journalism, advertising or public relations for a large organization or organization that serves a large audience. Experience working for a large school district, marketing communications agency/firm, higher education, or broadcast journalism highly preferred
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in visual arts, communications, multimedia production, marketing, broadcast journalism, or related field
  • Advanced technical skills on video and/or television production equipment as listed above
  • A self-starter who is motivated and has a passion for video production work
  • Knowledge of urban school districts
  • Ability to speak Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Arabic or Vietnamese
