Position Function:
This position is under the administrative supervision of the Publications Manager of the Bagley College of Engineering. This position will assist with publishing activities for the college including the writing and editing of articles and press releases related to engineering faculty, students, research, and development activities. Editing will also include reports, brochures, admissions pieces, some executive communications and marketing materials. Activities may include assistance with several college events.Salary Grade :
14 Please see Staff Compensation Structure for salary ranges.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Write, edit and research for promotional materials, news articles, announcements and press releases pertaining to activities for the Bagley College. 2. Increase the visibility of the Bagley College among other universities through announcements of faculty honors, research funding, appointments, etc. 3. Assist with the coordination of the marketing initiative for the Bagley College of Engineering with MSU administration, university relations and the MSU foundation. Collaborate on projects with the Dean's Office and other departments within the college. 4. Use various communications to promote a philanthropic spirit to alumni and friends of the Bagley College. 5. May assist with college events and activities. Activities include, but are not limited to, Dean's Advisory Council, Distinguished Fellows and Student Hall of Fame Banquet, Ph.D. Luncheon and Graduate Reception. 6. Assist with the content creation for the Bagley College website, as well as the departmental sites within the college. 7. Assist with the college's social media. 8. Arrange photo shoots in coordination with the Office of Public Affairs photographers for articles. Also, may assist with internal college portraits, event photography and image library management. 9. Provide editorial support for interns. 10. Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism or related field or equivalent education and/or work experience.Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience with Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop in a Macintosh environment. 2. Familiar with WordPress and/or Drupal. 3. Experience with digital photography and videography including lighting, camera equipment and editing software.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Five years experience directly related to the specified duties and responsibilities outlined above. 2. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 3. Proficiency in AP style. 4. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with and interview university officials, faculty, prominent alumni and friends of the Bagley College, i.e., multiple, and varied constituencies. 5. Good computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office. Working Conditions and Physical Effort- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
