Job Responsibilities:

The Public Relations Specialist supports the creation and maintenance of communications materials and systems for WNYRIC/Technology Services and Professional Learning and School Supports divisions. This position provides tactical communications support across a variety of platforms and digital formats, helping ensure information is accurate, accessible, organized, and aligned with established branding and communication standards. Collaborate with internal teams to help ensure communication materials are organized, timely and aligned with branch needs.

Provide general administrative and tactical communications support for branch projects, programs and events.

Update and maintain websites, webpages and digital content to ensure information is current, accurate and easy to access.

Support the creation, organization, and maintenance of SharePoint pages, internal resources and employee-facing communication hubs.

Create and maintain both digital and physical branded materials including templates, flyers, presentations, and handouts

Provide photo and visual content support for events.

Support event communications and logistics.

Provide routine assistance to users of communications-related platforms and tools, including Canva, website systems and professional learning management systems.

Public Relations Specialist I

Job Qualifications Minimum Civil Service Qualifications:

Must meet minimum qualifications for a provisional appointment as follows: A) Possession of a Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations or communications and four years of experience in a position with public relations responsibilities, one of which was in a supervisory capacity; or: B) Completion of a minimum of 60 semester credit hours and six years of experience in a position with public relations responsibility, one of which was in a supervisory capacity; or: C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience supporting communications, public relations, marketing, branding, or related initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time-management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Initiative, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with staff across departments and communicate with diverse audiences.

Knowledge of website content management, SharePoint, and digital communications best practices.

Experience creating digital and print communications materials. Working knowledge of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, video scripting, photography, and visual content creation.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other communications-related technology platforms. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
