Job Description

Ballard Food Bank's mission is to bring food and hope to our neighbors because there can be enough for everyone. To achieve our mission, we provide access to nutritious foods through our grocery model food bank, Kindness Café, and Community Resource Hub, which encompasses financial resources, referral, and mail services that support self-sufficiency. We also advocate for food equity and justice. Our home, which opened in October 2021, serves as a Hub for Hope as it brings together food, services, and community partners in a one-stop shop. Position summary:
Ballard Food Bank is seeking a Communications and Marketing Specialist with social media experience who is passionate about our mission and telling the stories of our programs, clients, volunteers and community. The tea member we're looking for loves to create content that supports the organization's goals, builds meaningful connections, and encourages the community to actively participate. If you're excited about using storytelling, writing, and different communication channels to help address food insecurity and the systemic injustices that lead to poverty, this may be the role for you!
Responsibilities:
Lead Ballard Food Bank's social media efforts. Monitor and analyze social media channels to build and engage a community of followers. Create consistent and meaningful content on multiple channels, including writing and editing social media posts and testing audience response. Take and edit photos and short videos. Provide data-driven insights on what themes are resonating with audience. Write and perform light graphic design for digital and print publications. Interview volunteers, clients, staff, donors and community members for feature stories. Draft and finalize stories with a focus on equitable and strengths-based storytelling. Draft and edit content for monthly e-newsletter; coordinate design and distribution. Support the program team with miscellaneous collateral including flyers, posters, brochures, one-pagers, and signage, coordinating with external designers as needed. Work with Sr. Communications Manager and team on quarterly print newsletters and annual report. Partner with printing and mailing vendors, along with volunteer writers and external designers. Steward resources wisely within established budget
Qualifications:
At least 2 years of experience managing social media for an organization. Experience with Mailchimp or another email marketing platform. General understanding of graphic design concepts; ability to follow and champion brand standards. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other office productivity tools, with aptitude to learn new software and systems. Superb written and verbal communication skills; ability to handle difficult issues with tact and diplomacy. A high degree of discretion and demonstrated ability to handle confidential information. Commitment to Ballard Food Bank mission, racial equity, and social justice. Hours This is a full-time hybrid position, working Monday through Friday with minimal evening and weekend events.
