Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Digital Assistant to join our team to draft and post content on social media. This temporary position is hourly, up to full time, through December 18, 2026 and requires some in-person work in Lansing. This position is intended to give real-world experience in state legislative communications to someone looking to enter the digital/communications field. As a Digital Assistant, you will generate social media content and communications materials for the members of the Democratic Caucus of the Michigan State House of Representatives.
The Ideal Candidate:
Has strong written and verbal communications skills Understands social media platforms and can adapt content for posting across Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bluesky, TikTok, and YouTube Can analyze social data trends Seeks out ways to be helpful beyond assignments and offers suggestions or new ideas Can juggle multiple tasks based on priority level and timeline Can quickly turn around content for time-sensitive postsJob Responsibilities:
Draft daily posts for representatives' social media accounts Identify and share social media trends Brainstorm ideas and offer suggestions for content, working closely with the Multimedia Team to gather content as needed Communicate representatives' social media needs and execute them, working with relevant staff members on the Communications Team and beyond Attend House session and committee meetings, identifying compelling exchanges for sharing on social media Help representatives comply with accessibility standards and best practicesCandidate Requirements:
Enthusiastic social media user Eager to learn, innovate, and try new things Self-motivated with a reliable work ethic Comfortable asking questions, seeking additional guidance, and incorporating feedback Organized and skilled at time management Able to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment Able to follow specific directions and work collaboratively and independently in-office and remotely Available to work in-person in Lansing when the state House is in session (Tuesdays through Thursdays) Interested?
