Job Description
Communications Generalist, UVAFinance The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia $44,000 - $50,000 per year based on education and experience. United States, Virginia, Charlottesville 1215 Lee Street (Show on map) Aug 10, 2026 The Communications Generalist assists with the development and execution of strategic communications that support UVAFinance's mission, major initiatives, and organizational priorities. The ideal candidate has strong writing and editorial skills, an eye for clarity and accessibility, and a talent for translating financial and technical information into user-friendly content. This position works closely with colleagues across UVAFinance and partners throughout the University to deliver consistent, transparent communication across multiple channels while supporting digital accessibility, training communications, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
- Build, update, and improve website content, ensuring accessibility, clarity, and alignment with University guidelines.
- Assist with the creation, maintenance, and remediation of digital content to support accessibility standards and ensure compliance with University and legal accessibility requirements.
- Translate complex financial and technical concepts into clear, engaging, accessible, and audience-friendly materials.
- Write, edit, and produce content for blog posts, newsletters, announcements, the website, and other communication channels.
- Partner with the Training team to develop, update, and remediate training materials, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, and aligned with instructional objectives.
- Lead the day-to-day management of UVAFinance's social media presence by creating content, maintaining an editorial calendar, monitoring engagement, and supporting the department's digital communications strategy.
- Collaborate with functional experts within UVAFinance as well as partners across Grounds to ensure accuracy and shared understanding in all messaging.
- Design simple graphics and illustrations as necessary to enhance digital content; familiarity with Canva is a plus.
- Maintain consistency of tone, voice, and messaging across platforms.
- Support special projects and communications needs as they arise. Key Qualifications/Certifications Required
- Bachelor's degree.
- 1 year of relevant professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field, 2+ years preferred.
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Excellent proofreading and editing ability with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
- Proven record of working collaboratively and effectively with colleagues across departments and units.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to anticipate challenges and problem-solve proactively. Preferred
- Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven settings.
- Familiarity with digital communication tools such as Canva, Blogger, and Marketing Cloud.
- Experience creating or remediating accessible digital content and familiarity with WCAG and other digital accessibility best practices.
