Job Description

About Us Merchandise Outlet is an establiched discount and liquidation retail chain operating 11 stores across Central and Northern Michigan. We source high-quality closeout, overstock, and liquidation merchandise and sell it at prices that give our customers a genuine value. Our business is built on the treasure hunt experience — customers walk in not knowing what they will find, and they leave having found something they love at a price they cannot believe. We are now looking to grow out the e-commerce side of our business to take our merchandise beyond our physical store footprint and reach customers across a broader market. This is a ground-floor opportunity to build and lead something — not to maintain a system someone else built. The Opportunity What We Are Looking For We want someone who has done this before. Not someone who is curious about e-commerce or has dabbled in selling online — someone who has built or managed an online sales operation for a retail or product business, understands the mechanics of marketplaces and direct-to-consumer channels, and can walk into our warehouse, put their hands on merchandise, and make smart decisions about what goes online, what goes to stores, and what gets bundled or auctioned. We are a fast-moving, lean operation. We do not have time to provide basic training on what e-commerce is. We need a manager who knows the tools, knows the platforms, knows what good looks like — and can apply that knowledge to our specific merchandise mix and customer base. If that describes you, keep reading. Role Overview The E-commerce Manager will own the full online sales operation for our company. A critical and daily part of this role is being physically present in our warehouse — walking new merchandise as it arrives, evaluating condition and market value, and making real-time decisions about what merchandise is best suited for online channels, which stores it should go to, and how it should be bundled, priced, or presented. You will then be responsible for getting that merchandise listed, sold, and shipped online efficiently and profitably. This is a hands-on role. In the early stages especially, you will be doing the work with your team. As the channel grows, you will help define what team or support resources are needed to scale it.
