Job Description

Assist in promoting the World Languages & Cultures Department through events, social media, and other outreach opportunities, under the direction of unit leadership. This position will support a dynamic department with many different languages and cultures that inform our goals. Career Readiness Competencies Set personal goals and track progress toward them. Take initiative to learn new tools, systems, or procedures on the job. Actively listen and respond respectfully in meetings and conversations. Adjust tone and approach based on audience (e.g., peers vs. supervisors). Identify when additional information is needed before making a decision. With guidance & materials from dept staff/faculty, develop content for use on digital social media platforms. Research, monitor, and evaluate ideas, tools, trends, and applications to increase engagement and followers. Research, create, and implement ideas to promote the unit's programs, events, accomplishments, etc. Promote, help organize, and assist in putting on department (and student club) events. As needed- to take photos/videos for posting online. Convey department messaging in a meaningful, understanding manner. Learn new software and/or digital platforms as needed for the role. Follow instructions, meet deadlines, and deliver quality work. Learn and use various multimedia and tools (including Canva) to enhance social media posts. (videos, graphics, photos, etc.) Experience in managing social media pages for a student organization, business, department, or brand. Knowledge of social media trends. Ability to research & implement new trends. High-level written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading skills. Ability to interact well with faculty, staff, and students from various cultures. Knowledge & proficiency to use (or learn) necessary tools, including Canva. Basic photography and videography skills. (Some familiarity with photo/video editing is a plus.) Professional, self-motivated, and responsible, with the ability to follow instructions, act independently, take initiative, and achieve results. Some schedule flexibility is necessary for this position, as events are scheduled throughout the day/week.
