Not the slide deck. Most marketing jobs hand you a budget and ask for a report. This one hands you a real budget, a phone system that tracks every call that comes in, four trades with four different demand curves, and a building full of people whose week depends on the board staying full. Then it asks you one question every Monday morning: What did we spend, and what did it produce? If that question makes you uneasy, this isn't your job. If it's the question you've been waiting years for someone to finally ask you, keep reading. The job in one sentence You own demand. Marketing at Leslie exists to put the right call on the board, in the right trade, on the right day, at a cost that works — and to build a brand across Chicagoland that makes every one of those calls cheaper next year than it was this year. We're a prominant company built over 30+ years, going to nine figures. Marketing is how we get there, and right now nobody owns it end to end. You would. What you'll be measured on Not activity.
These:
Cost per booked call, by trade Marketing-sourced revenue and return on marketing spend Call volume against available capacity, week by week, trade by trade Lead-to-booked-call rate — shared with our call center, because lead quality and booking rate are two different problems and you'll be the one who can tell them apart Membership growth out of our existing customer database Cost per qualified applicant on recruiting campaigns Our mix of branded vs. unbranded calls over time — the real scoreboard for whether the brand work is working What you'll own The full marketing budget and where every dollar of it goes The channel mix across search, LSA, paid social, direct mail, radio, TV, billboard, email and SMS — and the judgment to move money between them when the data says to Our digital agency partner: you set the scorecard, run the calls, and hold them to it. You're their client, not their contact. Seasonal and capacity-driven planning — turning demand up in the shoulder seasons and down when we're slammed, by trade Our house list: the customers we already have are the cheapest revenue in the building, and most companies ignore them Website, offers, messaging, creative direction, and video — some of which you'll make yourself and some of which you'll direct Recruiting marketing. We can't grow past the seats we can fill, so filling them is a marketing problem too. Community presence, sponsorships, and the reputation of the Leslie name across every touchpoint You will not be doing this alone Yes, you're the marketing department. You're not the marketing budget's only friend. We keep digital execution with a specialized agency partner on purpose — the platforms move too fast for one person to stay in front of, and we're not going to put the company's lead flow in a single point of failure. You direct them. You don't have to out-Google Google by yourself. You'll have a fractional CMO relationship available for strategic pressure-testing. You report to the President. One conversation, one decision. No committee, no six-week approval cycle. Our tracking is already in place. You're not starting by begging for a call-tracking budget. What we're looking for Hard requirements: 8+ years in marketing, with at least 3 of them personally accountable for a marketing budget of $500K or more Demonstrated fluency across all three: digital, traditional, and social. Deep in one and thin in the others won't work here. You'll be running a billboard and a Google Ads budget in the same week. You can explain how you separate a lead-quality problem from a sales or booking problem — and you've actually done it Experience holding an outside agency accountable, including at least once when it was uncomfortable You've measured a brand channel — direct mail, radio, TV, outdoor — in a way that survived scrutiny. "Impressions" is not an answer. Working knowledge of website, email/SMS, and video creation and editing. You'll be hands-on for the next couple of years.
Strong plus:
Home services, trades, or another local, appointment-driven business — restaurant or retail multi-unit, franchise, dealership group, pest, lawn, dental, med spa. Anything where marketing's job is to make a phone ring in a specific ZIP code. Experience with CRM and call-tracking data hygiene (ServiceTitan, CallRail, WhatConverts or similar) Multi-brand or acquisition integration experience This is probably not your job if… Your best work is a portfolio and you'd rather not talk about what it produced You want to redo the logo in your first ninety days You've never listened to a call recording You need a team under you to be effective. At $20M you'll get a coordinator. Not before. You want to set strategy and hand execution to someone else. Here you do both. Why Leslie We're a family business started in 1992 with a van and a toolbox, now 3 generations deep.
Our purpose is simple:
we comfort families. Our mission is to provide compelling in-home service experiences that revive the lost art of serving others. Here's what that means for you specifically: you will never be asked to market a promise our field team can't keep. 3,200+ Google reviews at 4.8. 13,000+ PulseM reviews at 4.8. A lifetime workmanship guarantee, a full-year money-back guarantee, and a no-lemon guarantee we actually honor. Every marketer knows the misery of driving demand into an operation that can't deliver. That's not this. We also mean it about stewardship. You'll be trusted with real money and expected to treat it like it belongs to the people who earned it — because it does. A portion of every sale goes to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of Eileen Leslie, who fought such a battle with dignity and grace.
