The Role The Senior Retail Marketing Manager is responsible for driving measurable growth in customers and revenue across the entire customer journey, including acquisition, first purchase, repeat visits, loyalty, and referrals. You will analyze customer data and channel performance, and conduct structured testing to identify growth opportunities, enhance conversion and retention rates, and inform marketing investments. You will develop systems, team routines, and reporting mechanisms to translate marketing efforts into tangible business outcomes. The role involves creating and leading marketing strategies related to customer acquisition, retention, loyalty, promotions, lifecycle marketing, and vendor partnerships. Marketing at a single-store dispensary leans on local, real-world channels and in-store touchpoints as much as digital ones, so the strongest fit understands community and location-based growth, not only online funnels. You are inheriting an established brand, a strong visual identity, and a loyalty program that is still maturing. You should be comfortable editing existing marketing templates in Canva. Our brand system and templates are already built to produce day-to-day creative (promotion graphics, menus, social posts). You will manage an approved budget, advise on channel allocation, coordinate a small marketing team, and reserve the authority to engage contracted design and video support for larger or more polished work. You will work under the interim Head of Marketing, executing and managing the day-to-day marketing function. As you establish a track record, you will take on more of that scope directly, with a clear path to lead marketing for the store. Key Duties Own the full customer growth funnel: Improve how prospective customers discover Mary & Main, make a first purchase, return, join loyalty, increase visit frequency, and refer others. You will serve both medical and adult-use customers and design campaigns and loyalty experiences that respect each group's distinct needs, including sensitivity to medical patients in messaging and promotions. Set marketing strategy for customer growth, customer retention, lifecycle marketing, loyalty, promotions, and events. Set a clear purpose and measurement plan for each event, activation, and partner campaign. Track attendance, customer capture, first purchases, repeat visits, cost, and follow-up performance. Build, maintain, and improve key journeys across email, SMS, and push notifications. Use segmentation, timing, offers, and message tests to improve engagement, return visits, and revenue. Build reports that show customer growth, return visits, campaign results, conversion, and marketing spend. Measure customer cost and quality by channel. Recommend where to increase, reduce, pause, or redesign spend based on customer acquisition cost, conversion rate, repeat-purchase behavior, revenue, margin, and customer lifetime value, where data allows. Partner with store leadership, Operations, and the Assistant General Manager to improve conversion at key points: campaign response, online menu or promotion-page engagement, first purchase, loyalty enrollment, discount use, and return visits. Lead marketing relationships with vendors and partners, including activations, pop-ups, co-marketing, and events. Proactively bring creative activation and collaboration ideas to brand partners and steer their marketing budgets toward Mary & Main programming. Negotiate and recommend vendor terms within approved limits. Coordinate a small marketing team and set clear goals, assign work, coach team members, and give feedback. Produce routine creative in Canva and direct contracted graphic design and video partners for larger work within the approved budget. Write briefs, set due dates, give feedback, and approve work that meets brand and compliance rules. Plan and schedule ongoing and campaign discounts in Dutchie, Weedmaps, and Leafly before launch dates. Own the marketing quality-check process for approved promotions: check promotion terms, dates, products, discounts, and customer rules before each launch. Lead loyalty and VIP program strategy, including the Main Street Flower Club and our recurring sales-day programming (for example, Munchie Mondays, our Tuesday sale, and Fresh Drop Fridays). Make routine website updates, including copy, promotion pages, and banners. Study customer behavior, frontline feedback, reviews, survey results, loyalty data, and campaign performance to identify barriers to first purchase, return visits, and loyalty participation. Turn findings into tests, campaigns, and operational recommendations. Check every campaign, promotion, and asset against current Maryland cannabis advertising law, including limits on imagery, required warnings, health-claim restrictions, audience and age-targeting rules, and promotional limits. Where Your Time Goes This role is weighted toward revenue growth. As a starting guide, subject to seasonal shifts and quarterly priorities: Focus area Approx. weight Growth, retention, and lifecycle marketing (funnel, email/SMS, loyalty) about 40% Promotions, deal programming, and marketing QA across Dutchie, Weedmaps, and Leafly about 20% Vendor and partner activations about 15% Reporting, testing, and data analysis about 15% Team leadership and contractor direction about 10% These weights will shift with the marketing calendar and are reviewed each quarter. What You Will Own Marketing strategy and campaign planning Channel, lifecycle, loyalty, and event plans Marketing reporting and testing plans Marketing calendar and campaign timelines Vendor and partner relationship management Marketing QA for approved promotions Direction of approved graphic design and video contractors Day-to-day leadership of the marketing team Budget recommendations and approved budget management What You Will Not Own Graphic design or video production. Final approval of vendor fees, contract terms, or contractor selection during your ramp-up period; the interim Head of Marketing retains this approval. Technical SEO or website architecture. Final legal or regulatory interpretation, and operational compliance (Metrc, licensing, product tracking). Those sit with the compliance and operations owners. You own marketing and advertising compliance; for anything novel or unclear, you escalate rather than interpret it yourself. System fixes for POS or platform outages: you must document the issues, verify the marketing setup, and escalate to the appropriate owner. What We're Looking For 3+ years of experience in growth marketing, performance marketing, lifecycle marketing, retention marketing, retail or e-commerce marketing, or a similar role. Transferable e-commerce marketing experience is welcome. Experience using a CRM, marketing automation, or lifecycle platform. Our stack includes Dutchie, Alpine, Weedmaps, and Leafly, so direct experience with a dispensary POS and marketing stack is a strong plus. Comparable experience with Alpine IQ, Klaviyo, HubSpot, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Braze, or Iterable also translates. Knowledge of customer segments, triggered campaigns, email, SMS, push notifications, and loyalty programs. Experience managing vendors, partners, or agencies. Ability to build simple, useful reports and dashboards. Ability to review imperfect data and make sound choices about spend, priorities, and tests. Strong planning skills and attention to detail. Good judgment about when to act, when to ask for help, and when to escalate. Ability to explain results and recommendations clearly to senior leaders. Comfortable working inside a regulated advertising environment. You check the rules before you publish, build compliance into your process rather than treating it as a last step, and escalate gray areas instead of guessing. Comfortable using approved AI tools to improve output. Cannabis experience is helpful but not required. You May Be a Strong Fit If You Take initiative. Work well within clear rules and approval paths. Enjoy working in a retail business and being on the floor. At Mary & Main, you'll partner directly with store leadership and build campaigns the floor team can run. Can lead people, manage vendors, review data, and support live events. Can set priorities when several urgent tasks compete for attention. Care about customer experience, accurate promotions, and clear communication. Want to lead a key part of a growing business. Can work through unclear problems while asking for support when needed. Have experience designing and running structured marketing tests. Have experience making budget decisions based on customer acquisition cost, conversion, retention, and customer value. This role is not fully remote. It also does not have a fixed daily task list. Workload may be heavier during major campaigns, store events, and seasonal periods. How Success Will Be Measured In the first 90 days, you will establish a baseline for channel performance, customer acquisition and return behavior, lifecycle performance, promotion accuracy, and campaign reporting; launch a practical testing roadmap; and create a recurring leadership dashboard.
Success will include:
Better marketing data and clearer attribution. Improved customer growth and return rates. Better lifecycle and loyalty performance. Accurate and timely promotion setup. Strong vendor and budget management. Clear monthly reports and practical recommendations. A well-led marketing team with clear goals and reliable delivery. A clean marketing-compliance record, with promotions and advertising that meet Maryland requirements and no avoidable regulatory exposure. What You Can Expect From Us Mary & Main is building a strong, well-run team. We will support you with direction, clear priorities, and access to key partners. You will work closely with the interim Head of Marketing. You will also partner with Operations, the Buyer & Sales Planner, compliance stakeholders, the Assistant General Manager, and senior leaders. We expect you to bring strong marketing and people-leadership skills. In return, we will give you room to build systems, improve results, and grow your authority over time.
