Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking an energetic and strategic Market Manager to lead and drive growth within the Joplin Empire Market. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all aspects of the farmers market operations, including vendor recruitment and entrepreneur development, team leadership, financial management, and strategic planning. Your leadership will ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and profitable growth. As a key member of the Downtown Joplin Alliance team, you will develop innovative strategies to expand market presence, optimize processes, and foster a high-performing environment. Your proactive approach will be instrumental in achieving the Market mission of "
BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH FOOD
". Duties Opening and closing on Market days including putting up/taking down signage, tents, and other event items, as well as general cleaning duties Recruit and retain market vendors and kitchen tenants, including conducting farm visits Recruit, oversee and coordinate market volunteers Oversight and implementation of various programs of the market including music, events, kids meals, community gardens, etc. Assist other DJA staff with a financial sustainability plan, including sponsorships, grants and fundraising Market financial management and reporting Enforce Market rules and be familiar with local and state sanitation and food safety guidelines, and other pertinent laws and regulations Market social media and promotion Handle emergencies, complaints, and customer requests Maintain positive, non-discriminatory relations with vendors, customers, staff, and other tenants Oversee building and grounds maintenance and appearance Customer service: including emails and phone calls Community outreach: relationship building through social media, membership on boards and committees, public appearances Develop and implement project management plans to streamline operations, improve processes, and support scalable growth initiatives Experience Experience with project management, program coordination, and/or event planning Exceptional communication skills Computer literacy, including familiarity with Google Drive Ability to write basic reports and manage the market's accounting and record keeping system Sense of humor and the capacity to manage stress in healthy ways Experience working with diverse stakeholders Ability to lift at least 50 pounds on a regular basis Must have access to personal Facebook/Instagram Given the locations of our events and activities, the Market Manager can expect to occasionally be subject to wide temperature variations
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven leadership and problem solving skills Knowledge of and passion for farmers markets, local foods and/or small business Excellent verbal and written communication skills Business, nonprofit and/or entrepreneurial experience Experience with volunteer management Familiarity with Joplin community Strong prioritization and organizational skills Marketing/graphic design skills If you thrive in a flexible and upbeat environment, are ready to take on leadership opportunities, and have a genuine love for Downtown Joplin, we'd love to hear from you!
Pay:
$38,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
