About the Opportunity The Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau (MITB) is seeking a Director of Destination Marketing to lead the digital voice of one of the country's most iconic destinations. Truly a destination that doesn't need an introduction as the recipient of USA Today's #1 Best Summer Travel Destination in the U.S., #1 Best Fall Destination in the U.S. and with more than 1 million annual visitors, Mackinac Island has widely been recognized as a top destination in the country. The work you do here will be seen by millions of people planning their next getaway, learning the Island's story, and falling in love with a place unlike anywhere else in the world. This is a rare opportunity to help shape how more than a million annual visitors experience Mackinac Island, its streets and shoreline, its traditions and seasons, and the close-knit community that brings it all to life. The Role As Director of Destination Marketing, you will lead MITB's digital and communications strategy across paid, earned, and owned channels. You'll help set the direction for how Mackinac Island, and its history, natural beauty, culture, events, hospitality and personality are presented online and in the media; you'll build the content that fuels this messaging with the help of experienced Public Relations and Digital Advertising partner firms. Core Responsibilities
Digital Display Advertising:
Plan, execute, and optimize digital display campaigns that drive visitation and brand awareness across key feeder markets.Social Media Strategy:
Own the bureau's social media presence across multiple platforms, growing engagement and translating the Island's character into compelling digital storytelling.Media Relations and PR:
Serve as a primary media contact, cultivating relationships with travel writers, journalists, and outlets to secure coverage, direct hosted visits with community partners and manage the MITB's public narrative.Content Creation:
Develop original photography, video, written, and multimedia content that captures the Island's history, culture, and seasonal experiences for use across all channels.- Turn Recognition into

Leverage Mackinac Island's extraordinary national recognition to create campaigns that convert awareness into visitation.Other Duties:
MITB is a small staff with a big job. Our small team is highly collaborative, and everyone works together to promote one of the most recognizable destinations in the country; including "all hands-on deck" during annual events that make our Island famous, such as our beloved Lilac Festival and the Fall Fudge Festival. If you want to see your ideas go from concept to execution, and know that your work is helping bring visitors from around the world to Mackinac Island, you'll have an enormous opportunity to make an impact in this role. Desired Qualifications- Proven experience in digital marketing, with 3-5 years of hands-on expertise in display advertising, social media management, and content creation.
- A track record in media relations or public relations, with 3-5 years experience building relationships with press and securing earned coverage. Strong preference for candidates whohave experience in the travel or tourism industry.
- Strong storytelling instincts - the ability to translate a place, a brand, or an experience into content that resonates.
- Director-level leadership experience, with the judgment to set strategy and the hands-on skill to execute it.
- Comfortable working in a seasonal, destination-driven environment where the pace and focus shift with the calendar.
- Preferred bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or another related field.
- Physical demands requirements: This is an active, highly mobile position in a unique Island environment.

Mackinac Island, Michigan (primarily on island mid-April through the end of October) This isn't a traditional 9-to-5 marketing role, and that is part of what makes it special.
