Job Description
Our lifecycle program is where most of the customer relationship actually happens. Leads come in from paid campaigns, product quizzes, and website signups, and email and SMS carry them from first contact through purchase and back again. You'll own that program end to end for both brands: the automated tracks that run every day, the monthly promos and flash sales, and the launch sequences that put new products in front of the right people. You're inheriting a working system with real volume behind it — along with a mandate to audit it, rebuild what's underperforming, and design what doesn't exist yet. About Rural Power Systems At RPS, we're solar-powered and people-powered! Every pump that leaves our warehouse means one less generator or power line—and cleaner, safer access to water. It supports healthier animals, plants, and people while boosting the resilience, independence, and self-sufficiency of rural families and communities. We're mission-driven, impact-focused, and yes—we're as cool as it sounds. We help folks across the country pump water sustainably, from off-grid ranches to remote homesteads. We're a team of tinkerers, builders, customer champions, and adventurers who take pride in solving real-world problems with clean technology. No corporate fluff, just honest work that matters. Description What You'll Own Lifecycle automation Own and optimize existing tracks across both brands: post-quiz, abandoned cart, post-purchase, and returning customer Audit existing flows for performance, relevance, and accuracy — rebuild or retire what isn't earning its place Build new tracks as products, audiences, and buying paths change Develop segmentation and personalization strategies that make each send feel like it was written for one person Apply all of the above to SMS as much as email — the two channels should work together, not duplicate each other Campaigns and promotions Write, design, build, stage, and send monthly promotional campaigns and flash sales for both brands, pulling in our in-house designers when a send calls for it Own the email and SMS calendar, keeping it aligned with promos, product drops, and sales priorities so the rest of the company can see what's going out and when Coordinate with Sales and Customer Support so what customers read matches what they hear on the phone Product launches Partner with product and marketing on launch planning — you're a stakeholder in launches, not a downstream recipient of them Build launch sequences that introduce new products, explain the problem they solve, and reach the segments most likely to buy Target launch sends against existing customer and lead data rather than blasting the full list Voice and technical translation Learn our products well enough to explain them accurately — pump curves, head pressure, panel sizing, wire runs Translate that detail into plain language a first-time installer can act on. Most of our customers install these themselves, and many have never done it before. Keep visual and written execution consistent from website to email to SMS — and keep the two brands sounding distinctly like themselves Performance and testing Lead A/B testing across subject lines, creative, personalization, and send-time optimization Pull and review weekly performance reports, flag trends, and recommend tactical adjustments Maintain list health: subscriber growth, engagement, deliverability, and compliance Requirements 3+ years in email marketing, lifecycle marketing, or marketing automation Demonstrated success managing lifecycle programs, including triggered flows and journey orchestration Hands-on experience running SMS campaigns Proficiency with an ESP like Ortto (what we use) or Klaviyo Strong command of the fundamentals: targeting and segmentation, personalization, triggered automation, orchestrated journeys, and multivariate testing Familiarity with deliverability best practices — list hygiene, spam compliance, engagement monitoring Comfort reading performance data and turning it into a recommendation, not just a report Ability to manage multiple campaigns across two brands in a fast-moving environment An eye for design. You can mock up concepts yourself in HTML, Claude, or Canva — or direct style and structure clearly enough that one of our in-house designers can run with it. Exceptional writing. This is a writing job as much as a marketing job. Nice to Have Working knowledge of analytics and reporting tools (GA4, Looker Studio, Segment) Experience using AI tools for email marketing (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) Slack, Google Docs, Google Sheets Background — professional or personal — with ranchers, farming, irrigation, rural living, solar, or industrial products Experience explaining technical or mechanical products to non-technical buyers Shopify experience Who You Are You love telling stories, understand the importance of meeting the customer with messaging that reflects where they're at in their decision-making journey, and enjoy crafting systems that split audiences into segments and journeys. You understand the art of "less is more" when it comes to creating impactful copy You write in a voice that's fresh, consistent, and customer-friendly — and you can flex it to fit more than one brand. You are excited about honing your analytics skills to understand the impact of the work you do and the content you create. You're self-directed and have a hunger to learn, grow, and share what you're excited about. We get better as a team every day, and we want you in that. You keep a running backlog of testing ideas, and you study what's working for other brands to feed it. You leave the processes and systems (SOP's, change logs, A/B testing results boards etc) around you better than you found them.
