Job Description

JOB PURPOSE
The Content Marketing Specialist supports CHMS and its nonprofit association clients, specifically the Powder Coating Institute (PCI), by executing day-to-day content that strengthens PCI's visibility, communicates member value, promotes programs and events, and increases engagement with members and the broader powder coating industry. This role develops compelling content across PCI's digital and print communication channels, including email marketing, website content, social media, promotional materials, member communications, event marketing, and other campaigns, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment with approved strategy and brand standards. The Content Marketing Specialist focuses on execution and coordination, translating direction from the Director of Communications & Marketing and Executive Director into high-quality, timely marketing deliverables. This person is a strong writer and storyteller who understands association marketing and knows how to turn organizational priorities, technical information, and member benefits into clear and engaging communications for a variety of audiences. This individual must be equally comfortable developing a marketing campaign, writing an email, creating social media content, updating website copy, and managing multiple communications projects and deadlines in tandem.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Development & Production
  • Develop clear, compelling content that supports PCI's strategic priorities, programs, events, membership initiatives, education, certification, publications, and industry outreach. Email Marketing
  • Plan, write, build, schedule, and evaluate email campaigns designed to increase awareness, engagement, event registrations, membership participation, and other desired actions for PCI and its publication, Powder Coated Tough (PCT). Website Content
  • Create, and in conjunction with webmaster, provide edits, and maintain website content to ensure information is current, accurate, engaging, and consistent with PCI's messaging and brand. Social Media
  • Develop and manage PCI's social media content calendar and create content that builds awareness, encourages engagement, and positions PCI as a leading resource for the powder coating industry. Event Marketing
  • Develop and execute marketing campaigns for PCI conferences, workshops, webinars, training programs, and other events, including pre-event promotion, onsite communications, and post-event follow-up to support the Conference & Meeting Planner lead. Membership Marketing
  • Develop content and campaigns that communicate the value of PCI membership, support member recruitment and retention, and increase awareness and use of member benefits to support the Membership Director. Content Calendar Management
  • Maintain an integrated marketing and communications calendar to coordinate email, website, social media, print, and other communications for PCI and its divisions. Campaign Development
  • Work with the Executive Director and staff to translate organizational priorities into coordinated marketing campaigns with clear audiences, messages, calls to action, and timelines. Editorial & Copywriting
  • Write and edit promotional copy, articles, member communications, newsletters, web content, event descriptions, advertisements, press releases, scripts, and other materials as needed. Brand Management
  • Help ensure consistency in PCI's voice, messaging, visual identity, and brand standards across all communications. Analytics & Reporting
  • Track and evaluate email performance, website traffic, social media engagement, campaign results, and other marketing metrics and use results to continually improve effectiveness for PCI and PCT. Audience Segmentation
  • Use membership and marketing data to develop targeted communications for different audiences, including members, prospective members, custom coaters, manufacturers, suppliers, end users, event attendees, and industry partners. Cross-Department Collaboration
  • Work closely with PCI staff, committees, volunteers, speakers, members, and outside vendors to gather information and develop effective marketing content. Industry Awareness
  • Develop an understanding of the powder coating industry, PCI's membership, and the issues and trends important to the audiences PCI serves. Project Management
  • Manage multiple projects and campaigns simultaneously while meeting established deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards. Escalation
  • Escalate sensitive issues, errors, or client concerns to the Director of Communications & Marketing. Support
  • Support department-wide initiatives and other marketing and communications duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience. A minimum of 5 years' professional marketing and communications experience working with a trade association, professional society, association management company, or similar membership organization. Demonstrated experience developing and executing association marketing campaigns supporting membership, events, education, programs, products, or services. Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills with attention to detail and adaptability for different audiences and communication channels. Demonstrated experience with email marketing, social media, website content management, and digital marketing. Experience developing integrated marketing campaigns across multiple communication channels. Experience managing marketing calendars and coordinating multiple campaigns simultaneously. Strong understanding of marketing analytics, including email open and click rates, website analytics, social media engagement, conversions, and campaign performance. Experience working with association management systems, email marketing platforms, content management systems, and social media management tools. Familiarity with digital marketing best practices and analytics. Basic knowledge of website content management systems is helpful. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite a plus. Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple deadlines, competing priorities and responding to changing organizational needs. Strong written and spoken communication and teamwork skills and client-service mindset. Occasional travel for conferences, meetings, and events as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience marketing for a manufacturing, industrial, engineering, technical, coatings, or related trade association. Experience with membership recruitment and retention campaigns. Experience marketing conferences, educational programs, webinars, certification programs, and other association products and services. Familiarity with association management systems and member databases. Experience with basic graphic design and content creation platforms such as Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud. Knowledge of SEO, digital advertising, marketing automation, audience segmentation, and lead generation. Experience using analytics and campaign data to make recommendations and improve marketing performance. Understanding of how associations balance member communications, revenue-generating programs, education, events, publications, and industry advocacy. Ability to develop fresh and creative approaches while maintaining the professionalism and credibility expected of an established industry association.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
​ Some travel is required for client meetings, conferences, and events. ​Be able to load, transport, and set up conference and other events.
