We are looking for a highly experienced and innovative Sr. Research Engineer II to join our Commercial Building & Infrastructure R D organization. Reporting to the R D Manager, this role serves as a technical leader responsible for driving innovation, leading complex product development initiatives, solving critical technical challenges, and mentoring team members while advancing technologies that support sustainable growth and competitive advantage. This position plays a key role in the development and commercialization of advanced construction materials and waterproofing technologies. The successful candidate will combine deep scientific expertise, strong business acumen, and exceptional collaboration skills to influence cross-functional stakeholders and deliver impactful solutions for customers and the organization. This position will be initially located in Wilmington, MA and future location is Northboro, MA.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead complex product development and commercialization projects, including formulation design, product optimization, and launch activities. Drive new technology development and identify opportunities that support long-term business growth. Lead root-cause investigations and resolve complex technical, manufacturing, and customer-related challenges. Manage multiple cross-functional projects while balancing quality, timelines, cost, and customer expectations. Serve as a technical subject matter expert and provide guidance to project teams and business stakeholders. Develop intellectual property, support patent generation, and identify new innovation opportunities. Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for leadership, customers, and external partners. Mentor engineers, scientists, and other team members through technical coaching and knowledge sharing. Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, Technical Service, Supply Chain, and Global R D teams. Support field trials, product launches, customer visits, training programs, and industry events.
IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science or a related technical discipline with 12+ years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline with 7+ years of relevant experience. PhD. in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline with 3+ years of industry experience is preferred.
Experience & Skills:
Demonstrated success in industrial R D, product development, and commercialization within a technical or manufacturing environment. Proven ability to lead complex research and development projects from concept through market launch. Experience solving technical and operational challenges using structured problem-solving, root cause analysis, and data-driven decision making. Ability to collaborate with across functions and influence technical and business outcomes with diverse stakeholders. Experience within the construction materials, building products, waterproofing or building science industry. Deep technical knowledge of materials science, polymer systems, product development, manufacturing, testing, and quality practices. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to evaluate complex technical issues and develop practical solutions. Proven project leadership skills, including planning, prioritization, execution, and resource management. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate technical information for both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to build consensus and effectively influence stakeholders in a matrixed organization. Demonstrated technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring capabilities. Ability to travel up to 20% for customer visits, field trials, manufacturing support, conferences, and technical meetings.

Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees' wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the national pay range for this position which is $102,000 to $158,000 per year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 13% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $115,260.00 to $178,540.00. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
