Business Development / Licensing & Strategic Partnerships Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Head of Business Development - In-Licensing to lead the identification, evaluation, negotiation, and execution of strategic in-licensing opportunities for pharmaceutical products. The ideal candidate will have 10-15 years of experience in pharmaceutical Business Development, with strong expertise in FDF (Finished Dosage Form) products and FML / manufacturing & licensing partnerships. The role will be responsible for building a robust product pipeline through in-licensing, evaluating commercial and technical opportunities, and establishing strategic relationships with pharmaceutical companies, innovators, developers, manufacturers, and license holders. The position will be based in New Jersey and will work closely with senior leadership, Commercial, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Medical, Supply Chain, Quality, Legal, Finance, and Technical Operations teams. Key Responsibilities 1. In-Licensing & Business Development Strategy Develop and execute the company's in-licensing and external innovation strategy aligned with business and portfolio objectives. Identify and prioritize attractive pharmaceutical product opportunities across relevant therapeutic areas and markets. Build and maintain a strong pipeline of FDF/FML opportunities through proactive market intelligence and industry networking. Identify opportunities involving licensed products, dossiers, ANDAs/NDAs, 505(b)(2) opportunities, generic products, specialty pharmaceuticals, and differentiated formulations, as applicable. Develop strategic relationships with pharmaceutical companies, product owners, manufacturers, licensors, developers, and other potential partners. 2. Opportunity Identification & Evaluation Source and assess potential in-licensing opportunities based on commercial potential, market size, competitive landscape, IP position, regulatory pathway, manufacturing feasibility, and strategic fit. Lead initial commercial and strategic due diligence of prospective opportunities. Coordinate cross-functional evaluation involving Regulatory, R&D, Technical Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, Legal, and Commercial teams. Develop business cases, financial models, opportunity assessments, and recommendations for senior management. 3. Deal Structuring & Negotiation Lead negotiations for in-licensing, out-licensing, co-development, supply, distribution, commercialization, and strategic partnership agreements. Develop and negotiate key commercial terms including upfront payments, milestones, royalties, minimum commitments, territory rights, supply terms, exclusivity, transfer pricing, and other deal economics. Partner with Legal and Finance teams to structure commercially viable agreements. Manage opportunities from initial contact through term sheet, due diligence, definitive agreement, and handover to implementation teams. 4.
FDF / FML
Partnership Development Develop and manage relationships with FDF manufacturers, pharmaceutical product developers, CMOs/CDMOs, dossier owners, and licensing partners. Evaluate manufacturing and supply capabilities, product economics, capacity, quality systems, technical capabilities, and regulatory readiness. Identify opportunities for FDF product licensing and manufacturing partnerships for the U.S. and international markets. Work with Technical Operations and Supply Chain teams to evaluate product transfer, technology transfer, manufacturing scalability, and commercial supply considerations. 5. Market Intelligence Monitor pharmaceutical industry trends, competitor portfolios, patent/IP landscapes, product launches, regulatory developments, and potential licensing opportunities. Develop intelligence on products approaching launch, products with commercial gaps, divestiture opportunities, and assets available for licensing. Maintain a comprehensive database of potential partners, products, and licensing opportunities. 6. Relationship Management Establish and maintain senior-level relationships with pharmaceutical companies and potential licensing partners. Represent the company at pharmaceutical conferences, partnering meetings, industry forums, and BD events. Develop a strong network across the U.S. pharmaceutical and global licensing ecosystem. Manage ongoing strategic relationships and ensure effective communication with external partners. 7. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration Lead and mentor the Business Development / Licensing team as the organization scales. Establish processes, governance, KPIs, and reporting mechanisms for the in-licensing function. Present opportunities, deal strategies, and recommendations to the executive leadership team and Board, as appropriate. Coordinate multiple complex transactions simultaneously while maintaining rigorous evaluation standards. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Life Sciences, Chemistry, Business, or a related discipline. MBA, advanced degree, or equivalent business/commercial education is preferred. 10-15 years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical Business Development, Licensing, Strategic Partnerships, or Commercial Strategy. Demonstrated experience specifically in in-licensing of pharmaceutical products. Strong FDF / Finished Dosage Form experience is required. Experience working with FML / pharmaceutical manufacturing and licensing arrangements. Strong understanding of the U.S. pharmaceutical market and commercial environment. Experience evaluating pharmaceutical products from both commercial and technical perspectives. Demonstrated experience in deal negotiation, term-sheet development, due diligence, and contract execution.
