The Contingent is a 501 (c) (3) venture non-profit focused on sparking and holding initiatives to empower leaders and mobilize community for the common good. Since our inception, we have leveraged the perspectives, skills and needs of people of color and low-income community members to challenge the status quo and positively transform our communities. We ask hard questions. We take risks. And we link arms with our neighbors, including business partners, faith communities, and government agencies. From mentoring, to mobilizing volunteers, to restructuring systems that have been designed to work for some at the expense of others, we prioritize empowering and mobilizing leaders to transform their communities. For more information about the initiatives of The Contingent, please visit www.thecontingent.org.Opportunity Summary:
The Sr. Product Manager will manage and improve the Every Child product, focusing on the needs of our community partners and members. This role is essential for developing our core product infrastructure as we expand to more states. The work is highly cross-functional, requiring management of relationships and feature builds across teams including marketing, customer experience, design, engineering, and programmatic work. A successful Product Manager will enjoy solving complex puzzles and fitting pieces together. This entrepreneurial and innovative role involves crafting user stories, partnering with engineering for successful sprints, and managing timelines, expectations, and risk with stakeholders. The leadership of this individual will enhance The Contingent's ability to serve our community by understanding their needs and building solutions. Personifying our core values (listening, innovation, accountability, radical hospitality, action), this role will creatively address the needs of kids and families impacted by foster care through collaboration with partners in new jurisdictions.Duties & Responsibilities:
Drive Delivery Own the product backlog end-to-end: writing and grooming user stories, managing sprint execution, and ensuring features ship on time and to specifications. Partner closely with engineering to run tight sprints — managing scope, surfacing blockers early, and holding commitments. Track and communicate timelines and risks to stakeholders proactively, keeping everyone informed and aligned. Oversee testing and launch of new features, ensuring quality and readiness before every release. Work Across Teams Bring marketing, customer experience, and design into discovery and prioritization early — their perspective makes the product stronger and the launch smoother. Clear the path for the people around you; you find genuine satisfaction in making your colleagues' work easier. Ensure partner training and documentation are developed with CX well before launch. When timelines tighten, pull people together around the problem — the best solutions in this work come from thinking out loud with the right people in the room. Sustain & Improve the Product Stay close to how the product is performing across jurisdictions — tracking key metrics and customer feedback and bringing what you learn back to the team. Lead discovery sessions with community members, state government partners, and community partners to surface needs and validate solutions. Weigh partner feedback, missional impact, and technical feasibility to make confident prioritization decisions and keep work moving forward. Take ownership of the health of the Every Child model in each jurisdiction, caring about outcomes long after launch day. Support Programmatic Relationships Show up as a steady, trusted presence for community and state partners — consistent, responsive, and clear. Work alongside programmatic teams in their relationships with state and community partners, helping bridge the gap between technical and programmatic language. Honor every commitment you make to partners — in this work, reliability is how trust is built and how outcomes improve over time. This role may include variability in responsibilities as deemed by the supervisor. The Contingent employees should be prepared for a dynamic work environment. Who You Are / Education and Experience You are a finisher and a collaborator in equal measure. You are energized by completion — by seeing commitments honored and work land well. You build trust through follow-through, and the people around you know they can count on you. 3-5 years of experience in product or program management, with a demonstrated track record of shipping on time. Strong cross-functional collaborator — marketing, CX, and design partners find you easy to work with and trust you to keep them in the loop. Natural at clearing the path for others: you notice when a teammate is stuck and do something about it. Experience managing complex work in environments that require navigating ambiguity and competing priorities. Experience with customer engagement platforms is beneficial; our solution brings together marketing, customer service, and technology. Excellent written and verbal communicator who can translate between technical and programmatic language for diverse audiences. Comfortable in a lean, fast-paced organization where priorities shift and hands-on work is expected. Commitment to the mission of The Contingent and to serving children, youth, and families impacted by foster care. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Experience in successfully working with a diverse group of constituents utilizing multi-cultural intelligence, using intentional listening, appreciation, and respect.
