Summary of Job Duties:
The University of Arkansas Executive Communications team supports the Office of the Chancellor and the Office of the Provost. This position will be a part of the Executive Communications team and work closely with the social media team, which is a part of a larger Integrated Communications Team. The Executive Communications and the Integrated Communications Team are a part of University Relations. The Social Media Intern for the Office of the Provost will help advance the university's overall public relations strategy to always position the U of A in the best light possible. As storytelling continues to expand across academics, research, student life, leadership initiatives and major events, the volume of content opportunities on social media platforms continues to grow. This position, in particular, will manage posts for the Provost on his personal social media channels.
Position Description:
The Social Media Intern for the Office of the Provost will report to the Assistant Director of Executive Communications and work closely with the Social Media Manager in University Relations. This role assists in brainstorming and ideating social media content for a weekly editorial calendar and manages posts on the U of A Provost's social media channels, including LinkedIn, X, Facebook and Instagram. They will attend events with the Provost to get pictures for posts, repost and share articles that feature university leadership, staff, faculty, students and alumni, and create additional organic content for the Provost's social media accounts. Content should help build brand awareness and generate engagement with campus and business leaders in the community while also enhancing the university's reputation across the state and nation. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this job, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Attend weekly or biweekly content planning meetings Create and manage a weekly content calendar and submit content for approval Capture photo and short-form vertical video content at campus events, lectures and university initiatives using a phone or camera Provide event coverage that can be quickly turned into sometimes same day social media posts Brainstorm content ideas aligned with university priorities and trends Assist with caption drafting for Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn Support design of graphics and carousel posts Contribute to content calendar brainstorming and planning
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Be a current University of Arkansas student pursuing a degree in advertising, public relations, journalism, communications, marketing, English or a related field Basic understanding of social media marketing principles and strategies Familiarity with content planning software such as SproutSocial (or any equivalent) or Meta Business Suite Experience in creating and editing content for social media platforms Demonstrated experience taking photos and videos, working in a public setting, and conducting oneself in a responsible manner General knowledge of photography and its application in social media content
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to interpret and apply social media analytics to improve engagement and reach Strong interpersonal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to connect authentically with individuals in upper leadership positions as well as college-aged audiences
