Social Media Specialist II Florida Gulf Coast University United States, Florida, Fort Myers 10501 FGCU Boulevard South (Show on map) Aug 19, 2026 Job Summary The Social Media Specialist II develops and implements social media strategies and communications initiatives for the university's primary institutional social media channels, consistent with university marketing, communications, and brand objectives. Provides guidance and consultation to university departments and units regarding social media strategy, content development, best practices, training and platform management. Supports institution wide social media standards and compliance and contributes to communications efforts for sensitive or emerging issues. Job Description Typical duties may include but are not limited to: Manages the design and development of university social media content that supports the university's marketing, communications, branding and strategic initiatives. Develops original ideas and creative approaches for social media content and strategies that support university goals; ensures content and designs follow university branding standards and are aligned with appropriate audiences and timelines. Develops and executes social media content strategies for the university's institutional social media channels and recommends content approaches that increase engagement and support university marketing and communications objectives. Provides guidance and support to departmental, college, program, and administrative unit social media accounts, as appropriate, and promotes consistent application of university social media practices and standards. Routinely monitors departmental social media accounts and ensures they are maintained, updated, and evaluated for effectiveness; present results of analysis when appropriate. Monitors social media engagement, audience trends and platform developments; analyzes results and recommends adjustments to improve the effectiveness of social media content and marketing efforts. Researches marketplace competitiveness and anticipates trends within social media platforms to identify opportunities to enhance marketing and communications efforts. Captures photos and videos for use in social media content. Provides training related to social media policy and provides guidance to departmental social media accounts on content development as appropriate. Develops new techniques, systems and procedures to enhance the marketing and communications efforts of the university. Reviews progress and evaluates the effectiveness of organic social media marketing initiatives; implements improvements and promotes best practices. Supervises, trains, and coordinates the work of paid student workers, interns, and service-learning students supporting university social media content and communications initiatives.

Additional Job Description Required Qualifications:
This position requires either seven (7) years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in digital media , marketing, communications, or a related field and three (3) years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions. Professional full-time experience in marketing, public relations, social media, or website development. Experience with publishing, imaging, or graphics software (Adobe Creative Suite or other specialized publishing or editing software) and social media monitoring software. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proven ability to think strategically and approach challenges with creativity. Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, and holding oneself accountable. Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively across teams. Knowledge of marketing strategies and communication principles. Knowledge and experience designing, implementing and assessing the effectiveness of marketing strategies and promotional materials. Knowledge of and ability to post photographs to various social media sites. Knowledge and ability to recognize and implement video, broadcast production techniques and standards, branding and marketing principles. Knowledge and proficiency in use of publishing and design software Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines. Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines. Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision. Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students and the community in a service-oriented environment. Ability to analyze problems and develop creative solutions to complex issues. Ability to operate a personal computer for extended periods of time. Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure. Salary:
