Overview The Rutgers Democracy Lab (RDL) was established through a transformative gift received in November 2024. Its mission is to serve as a vibrant hub for civic engagement and a collaborative workshop for studying, analyzing, and addressing the challenges and opportunities of contemporary democracy. RDL embodies a bold commitment to equipping students with the tools and knowledge to engage with, strengthen, and sustain democracy for future generations. The Lab also seeks to examine emerging threats, such as the influence of social media, and explore their profound impact on democratic processes. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Department Assistant for the Rutgers Democracy Lab. The Department Assistant will support Rutgers Democracy Lab's communications, public relations, and outreach efforts. Among the key duties of the position are the following: Assists with RDL website updates, preparing content for newsletters and social media, and helping promote RDL events and programs. Supports the development of communication materials for students, faculty, staff, partners, and the public. Assists with drafting and editing public-facing content, coordinating event promotion materials, supporting media and outreach efforts, and helping maintain RDL's public profile across digital platforms. Works with student digital content creators and assist with other RDL or Eagleton communications projects as needed.

Position Status:
Part Time Working Hours 19.5 Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, subject to change or discontinuation, and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System.

Temporary Staff Appointment - Hourly Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong writing, editing, proofreading, organizational, and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of working with digital communications tools, social media platforms, website updates, email communications, and basic design or content creation tools. Must be detail-oriented, able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and comfortable working in a non-partisan academic and civic engagement environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience or coursework in communications, journalism, digital media, political science, public affairs, or a related area is preferred. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, social media platforms, website management, and basic photo/design tools is helpful. Physical Demands and Work Environment Some evening or weekend availability may be needed for RDL events or programs.
