This position does not supervise other positions, but there are expectations to manage Coalition partnerships and members

Travel Requirements:

This position requires local DC-area travel and potentially national travel, as needed

This position requires long periods of sitting, 6 to 7 hours a day of computer usage, etc. About Together For DC Together for DC (T4DC) exists to build a people-powered solidarity movement led by DC residents and neighbors across the U.S. to defend DC's dignity and autonomy, and secure full rights for the 700,000 people who make up DC's vibrant communities. We lead the charge in educating and mobilizing neighbors across the U.S. to recognize DC as one of the frontlines of the escalating attacks on U.S. democracy. With that shared understanding, we work to mobilize everyday people to use their voice and political power to fight for DC's self-determination, freedom, and representation - and thus to also preserve democracy in the country. We are committed to building power towards passing the Washington, DC Admission Act (HR 51/S 51) in the U.S. House and Senate - and finally securing DC Statehood. About the Opportunity Together for DC is seeking a seasoned, experienced, and passionate Strategic Communications Consultant who will help us build sustainable and scalable communications, notably through strong media/PR placements and newsletter list management. This role will work directly with our emerging Narrative Building Working Group to co-build a strong national narrative campaign, as well as the infrastructure to support it. The ideal candidate has strong writing and storytelling skills, as well as a solid strategic communications foundation. They will also have a love for and baseline understanding of DC's unique position politically, culturally, and socially, and be able to deftly weave DC throughout the campaign. Key Responsibilities Include:

The responsibilities below reflect the core areas of work for the role. Digital Communications (40%) Newsletter Management Manage email listserv and segment audiences Build email marketing campaigns for targeted audiences Consolidate metrics and optimize performance as needed Manage all campaign listservs Connecting with T4DC Narrative Building Working Group or steering committee to confirm topics for emails Draft email copy and get feedback from approvers Keep email list in Action Network updated by exporting new subscribers Copywriting & Copyediting Work with Narrative Building Working Group to develop Together for DC brand voice through written communications Develop strong, compelling written narratives, educational materials, explainers, and more Provide copyediting support for outgoing communications Website Maintenance Make needed updates to website upon request (e.g., Add new events to website, add new champions to website list, add resources and actions as needed, etc.) and keep optimized for moving visitors up the ladder of engagement Work with FBC Communications Strategist to populate and maintain Together for DC blog Social Media Create and maintain ongoing content calendar across owned channels (BlueSky, Instagram) Work with Narrative Building Working Group to produce digital assets not limited to: static images, carousels, videos, audio Publish content to social media channels Develop and maintain ongoing digital community management strategy, including best engagement practices Digital Marketing and Advertising

• Influencer and Content Creator Marketing

• As needed, work with both earned and paid influencers to amplify campaign in key target regions Build out annual media mix and work with Communications Strategist on local and national digital ad placements Media/PR (30%) Support drafting and placement of op-eds (pitching, holding strong media relationships or has experience with cold calling/outreach) Cultivate both local and national media relationships (earned) Champion/Coalition Management (10%) Support creation of supportive content for Champions (campaign supporters) to amplify visibility like shareables, modifiable social posts, video scripts, toolkits etc, and work to gather stories and testimonials Develop audience segmentation with regard to strategies, mediums, messaging, tone, graphics, etc, in consultation with state partners Organize social media weeks of action with Champions Support storytelling efforts and sharing stories with state/national Champions and (as appropriate) across platforms Create fact sheets/infographics/flyers or other materials for use by Champions Regularly communicate with Champions (emails at least twice a month) through Action Network with updates, developments, actions with support from campaign leadership Fundraising/Marketing Support (20%) Create/design marketing materials for distribution at events and with funders Develop and track metrics of progress/success: Growth in audience across social platforms and email list + website visitors, new champions, state level social media metrics from partners and resulting sign ons, actions taken, etc. Support fundraising efforts with metrics and powerful examples of impact Cultivate Bonfire merch shop, advertise merchandise, and support social media posts with merchandise General Shared Responsibilities This role falls under the co-anchor organizations of the Together for DC campaign, which is a small, but engaged group of individuals. To ensure work moves forward, we work collectively to cover things such as virtual meeting logistics, attending Champion calls, and supporting preparation of presentations and documentation.
