Position Description:
The South Dakota Department of Education's Communications Team is seeking a summer intern that thrives in a fast-paced environment to deliver critical information to key stakeholders. This internship will take place during the department's busiest season, providing the intern with experience working in public-facing communications. The ideal candidate is creative, innovative, and detail-oriented with a passion for sharing vital news, resources, and tools that directly enhance the educational environment for students, educators, and families. The Communications Intern will gain hands-on experience through the following duties: Content Creation Copy Writing & Editing Event Photography Media Relations Social Media Management Students pursing an undergraduate degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations are invited to apply for the Communications Intern position. Familiarity with government is a plus but not required. Students are also encouraged to submit: Social Media Screening
- Provide social media handles for all personal accounts and any organization accounts you have directly overseen. Portfolio or Websites (if applicable)
- Provide a link to any digital portfolios or personal websites you have created for your academic coursework or as part of an internship experience. Sample Work (if applicable)
- Provide additional sample work that highlight your writing abilities, graphic design experience, social media content creation and planning, and any other items you believe emphasize your skill set.
Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program. All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
