Job Description

Food Manufacturing - Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler supports daily shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations in a fast-paced production environment. This role focuses on safely handling materials, replenishing inventory, performing putaways, and loading and unloading trucks using forklifts and material handling equipment. The position involves significant physical activity, including lifting, carrying, and palletizing products, while following strict safety and documentation procedures. Responsibilities Perform shipping and receiving activities, including loading and unloading products from trucks using forklifts and other material handling equipment. Replenish inventory and perform putaways to ensure materials and products are stored in the correct locations. Pull ingredients and materials accurately from storage areas to support production and batching operations. Palletize products, wrap pallets securely, and prepare loads for storage or shipment. Use RF scanners for documentation and inventory tracking when required. Maintain excellent attendance and reliability, including willingness to work overtime and Saturdays as needed. Support general warehouse operations, including stocking, palletizing, and other material handling tasks. Assist with batching and related production support duties as assigned. Follow all safety procedures when operating forklifts and handling heavy or awkward loads. Walk long distances throughout the facility, including on wet, uneven, or slippery surfaces, while maintaining safety awareness. Climb or move on ladders, steps, stairwells, walkways, and platforms as needed to access materials. Lift, lower, carry, push, and pull heavy or awkward objects and loads, including lifting up to 60 lbs and moving heavy carts, bins, or transport containers. Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all facility rules related to hygiene, safety, and product quality. Work effectively in areas with strong food ingredient odors and loud machinery noise. Perform additional duties as assigned to support warehouse, production, and overall facility operations. Essential Skills Minimum of 6 months forklift experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or production environment. Proficiency operating forklifts, including sit-down and stand-up reach trucks, preferably including Crown forklifts. Experience as a forklift operator, order picker, or material handler. Ability to use RF scanners for inventory control and documentation, or willingness to learn. Capability to safely lift and lower objects up to 60 lbs and to push or pull heavy carts, bins, or transport containers. Comfort working in physically demanding conditions that require frequent walking, climbing, lifting, and material handling. Ability to work in environments with strong food ingredient odors and loud machinery. Willingness to work overtime, including Saturdays, based on operational needs. Reliable attendance and strong work ethic in a production or manufacturing setting. Ability to follow safety procedures, GMP guidelines, and facility rules consistently. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment is preferred. Familiarity with material handling processes such as shipping, receiving, replenishment, and putaways. Experience using RF scanners for tracking inventory and documenting movements is a plus. Comfort working around food ingredients, seasonings, and spice blends. Strong attention to detail when pulling ingredients and preparing materials for production. Ability to adapt to changing tasks, including batching support, warehouse work, stocking, and palletizing. Why Work Here? Work Environment The work environment includes both cold and hot conditions, with temperatures ranging from approximately 20-45°F in some areas to temperatures exceeding 100°F in others, sometimes frequently. The facility produces various blends and spices for multiple clients, creating strong food ingredient odors that can linger on clothing and hair. Team members work around loud machinery and must follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), including strict hygiene and safety rules. The role requires extensive walking, sometimes on wet, uneven, or slippery surfaces, as well as climbing ladders, steps, stairwells, walkways, and platforms.
Appropriate attire is required:
safety work shoes with reinforced toes and slip-resistant soles, durable work pants such as denim (no leggings, jeggings, tights, yoga pants, or shorts), and shirts that cover the shoulders (no tank tops, halter tops, midriff tops, open-back tops, or strap-style tops). Hair nets and beard nets are required, long hair must be tied or banded, and no jewelry is allowed, including rings, watches, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and piercings. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
