Position Description Position Summary :
The working shop mechanic is responsible for performing duties related to routine maintenance and repair of heavy-duty trucks, construction and asphalt equipment while operating machinery in a safe and responsible manner. This position is responsible for supporting fellow shop employees and is the right fit for an individual that is willing to learn and develop skillsets. The successful applicant will be compensated based on experience and ability to successfully support and participate in the operations.
Essential Functions :
The following list is intended to be exemplary of the physical demands of the position however it is not exhaustive of all day-to-day functions. The applicant will be required to perform any or all of the following in a given day or week: Adheres to all safety rules and works safely on all jobs. Must have a strong mechanical and electrical knowledge to trouble shoot and repair equipment. Ability to MIG/Stick weld and fabricate is preferred, but not necessary. Schedule and track work and repairs as well as winter maintenance. Create work orders for all equipment repairs. Order equipment parts and request quotes from competitors as needed. Report immediately to Manager any damage to the equipment or safety hazards or accidents. Must be able to consistently lift and/or manipulate with push/pull force +•50 pounds; Flexibility with regard to schedule working extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays when business needs dictate. Regional travel with crew and occasional overnight travel. 40-50 hour work week base, flexibility afforded and time-and-a-half paid over 40 hours. Vermont State inspection license preferred but not required. While performing the duties of this position the incumbent is regularly required to stand for up to 10-12 hours (rest breaks as required by law will be provided). Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. 2+ years of prior industry experience preferred, working on heavy-duty truck, construction and asphalt equipment. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Valid Driver's License and clean driving record are required. Must pass a physical examination and drug screening. Must provide own tools. Strong judgment and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and use hands, reach with hands and arms, handle, see, feel, talk listen and smell. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Independent Action:
Performs work independently within scope of established guidelines and practices. Consults with Manager where clarification or exception to procedure may be required.
