POSITION SUMMARY
The Mental Health Specialist provides direct support and care to patients with mental health needs. This role works under the supervision of clinical staff to implement treatment plans, facilitate interventions, and support patient stabilization, recovery, and overall well-being. The Mental Health Specialist plays a key role in promoting a safe, therapeutic environment while assisting with behavioral health programs and services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct care and support to patients with mental health or behavioral health needs. Assist in implementing individualized treatment plans developed by licensed clinicians. Conduct behavioral observations, monitor patient progress, and document interventions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Facilitate group therapy sessions, educational programs, or structured activities as directed by clinical staff. Assist patients in developing coping skills, life skills, and strategies for mental health management. Collaborate with clinical, nursing, and administrative staff to ensure continuity of care. Monitor patient safety and adhere to crisis intervention protocols as needed. Support discharge planning, referrals, and linkages to community-based mental health services. Participate in care team meetings, case reviews, and program development activities. Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, PREA, and all applicable regulatory requirements. Promote a safe and therapeutic environment in accordance with facility policies.
ORGANIZATIONAL EXPECTATIONS
Provides a positive and professional representation of CFG Health Systems, LLC. Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention. Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments related to the scope of the role. Adheres to infection control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations, as applicable. Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities. Completes required orientation and training as directed by the facility. Follows facility policies, OSHA safety rules, and procedures while on assignment. Follows facility and CFG Health Systems Occurrence Protocol. Upholds HIPAA and PREA regulations. Demonstrates punctuality and dependability for assigned and confirmed shifts. Maintains required security clearance for the assigned facility.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioral Health, or a related field preferred. Experience Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in mental health, behavioral health, or related support roles preferred. Experience in correctional health, residential programs, or clinical settings preferred. Licensure & Certification Certification in behavioral health, crisis intervention, or similar may be required depending on facility. Skills & Competencies Strong communication, interpersonal, and observation skills. Ability to implement treatment plans and support patient behavioral goals. Knowledge of mental health interventions, crisis management, and de-escalation techniques. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. Proficiency with documentation and electronic health record systems preferred. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
