Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Metals Chemist to join our innovative laboratory team. In this pivotal role, you will lead analytical testing and quality control processes related to metals and alloys, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Your expertise will drive the development of new materials, optimize existing McCampbell Analytical Inc. is a full service environmental analytical laboratory located in Pittsburg, CA (SF Bay Area). We are a mature lab, established in 1991, and have some of the most diverse testing capabilities in the USA, including environmental, toxicological, industrial hygiene and materials testing. MAI is a career-focused employer but can occasionally accommodate those with a 1-3 year perspective.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a full time, entry to intermediate level (0-3 years) Metals Chemist for a Monday through Friday shift. Instrumentation used includes ICP-MS, ICP-OES, CVAA, CVAF, and GFAA. All new staff is fully trained by our in-house experts.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Analyst's primary duties are preparing standards, calibrations, analysis of samples, and data review. Must learn different software types that are integral to instrument control, data flow and data storage (LIMS). Must have the aptitude to learn EPA, ASTM and other analytical and sample handling protocols from various agencies. Basic and advanced trouble-shooting skills will be acquired through training and experience.
Qualifications:
A four-year college degree in Chemistry or other science. Candidate must be comfortable working in a laboratory and should have basic lab skills such as weighing, pipetting and diluting. Great attitude and aptitude for learning. Teamwork driven personality with a strong work ethic. Ability to work independently and as directed by Department lead. Attention to detail is crucial in minimizing errors and maintaining workplace safety. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Multi-tasking is essential as our lab tends to be very busy. Clear and concise communication with managers and co-workers. Good mechanical & troubleshooting skills and familiarity with LIMS are preferred but not required. Salary /

Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive chemical analyses of metal samples using techniques such as spectroscopy, chromatography (including gas chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography), and microscopy. Perform wet chemistry procedures, including titrations and sample preparation, adhering strictly to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and laboratory protocols. Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments such as spectrophotometers, chromatographs, and microscopes to ensure accurate measurements. Execute quality control tests on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products in accordance with FDA regulations and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP). Document all experimental procedures, results, and deviations accurately within Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). Support method development and validation activities for analytical techniques used in metals testing. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot analytical issues, improve testing workflows, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related field with a strong emphasis on analytical chemistry. Proven laboratory experience working within regulated environments such as pharmaceutical or materials manufacturing facilities. Proficiency in spectroscopy, chromatography (gas chromatography and HPLC), microscopy, and spectrophotometry. Knowledge of
GLP, FDA
regulations, CGMP standards, and microbiological testing protocols. Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for data entry and management. Familiarity with biochemistry techniques relevant to metals analysis is a plus. Strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
