Aug 31, 2026 Job Description 2026-2067 Middle School Special Education Language-Based Teacher Lynnfield Middle School Job Description The Language-Based teacher is responsible for creating individualized education plans for students in the special education program to achieve academic proficiency and close the achievement gap for the students. This teacher will serve as the liaison for special education students, maintain data and communicate progress to families. The teacher will plan lessons, deliver instruction (including small group English class) and assess all students' progress throughout the year. Candidates with Wilson or Orton-Gillingham experience preferred. Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in Special Education and SEI Endorsement are required. Primary Responsibilities Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental needs and interests of students Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicate these objectives to students. Assess the progress of students on a regular basis and write progress reports as required. Consult with colleagues, students, and parents on a regular basis. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s). Responsible for serving as a member of the Special Education Team in writing educational plans and progress reports Completion of achievement assessments within the required legal timelines Responsible for following the student IEP and ensuring compliance with state and federal SPED regulations including the delivery of high-quality services, and the provision of accommodations/modifications for instruction and assessment Responsible for developing students' phonological awareness, decoding, fluency, word recognition, and comprehension skills to facilitate the acquisition of reading skills and access to the curriculum Responsible for developing students' math, science, and social studies skills to facilitate the acquisition of reading skills and access to the curriculum Responsible for providing individual, small group, and inclusion-based instruction Responsible for communicating and collaborating with regular education teachers and other personnel in the educational programming for students with learning disabilities Responsible for communicating and collaborating with families and additional outside team members for students with learning disabilities Responsible for understanding the state-required guidelines around standardized testing and for providing appropriate accommodations as identified on student IEPs during the administration of these assessments. Responsible for assessing student knowledge and monitoring academic progress using formal and informal means to develop measurable IEP goals and to support student learning Performance of other job-related duties as assigned Required Qualifications Massachusetts licensure in Special Education Moderate Special Needs SEI Endorsement A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in Special Education Excellent written and oral communication skills Wilson and/or Orton Gillingham knowledge/ training; certification is highly preferred Citizenship, residency, or work visa required

Salary Range:

$61,848 - $118,668 per year. A union-represented position. Starting salary is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement based on the candidate's verified years of experience and educational degree (Steps and Lanes).
