Job Title:
MIG Welder - Stainless Steel Fabrication Job Description The MIG Welder fabricates and welds stainless-steel pulleys and related components in accordance with engineering specifications and strict quality standards. This role focuses on precision MIG welding, accurate interpretation of blueprints and weld symbols, and careful control of heat input to prevent distortion while producing durable, visually clean welds for mechanical and industrial applications. Responsibilities Perform MIG welding on stainless-steel pulleys, hubs, and related components according to engineering drawings and quality standards. Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and written work instructions to determine welding requirements. Set up welding equipment, including selecting and loading wire, setting shielding gas, and adjusting machine parameters. Prepare materials by cleaning, fitting, and aligning parts prior to welding to ensure proper joint fit-up. Apply proper welding techniques to control heat input, minimize warping, and maintain dimensional accuracy of parts. Inspect completed welds for quality, strength, and appearance, making adjustments as needed to meet specifications. Perform minor grinding and finishing work on welded assemblies to achieve required surface quality. Follow all safety procedures and participate in safety training, including consistent use of PPE and safe handling of materials. Maintain a clean and organized work area and care for welding tools, equipment, and personal protective gear. Collaborate with supervisors or team members when direction is needed, while working independently in an assigned welding cell. Essential Skills At least 2 years of MIG welding experience, including experience welding stainless steel. Demonstrated ability to perform MIG welding on stainless-steel components such as pulleys and hubs. Strong blueprint reading skills, including interpretation of weld symbols and fabrication details. Ability to control heat input to minimize distortion and maintain dimensional accuracy. Experience preparing materials for welding, including cleaning, fitting, and aligning parts. Ability to inspect welds for structural integrity, quality, and visual appearance. Basic grinding and finishing skills related to welded parts. Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions and standard operating procedures. Commitment to safety practices and consistent use of personal protective equipment. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds as required by the job. Additional Skills & Qualifications Approximately 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred. Experience working within the food manufacturing industry is a plus, particularly with stainless-steel components used in food-related equipment. Experience in fitting and fabrication work is highly beneficial. No formal welding certifications are required for this role. A high school diploma is not required. Hands-on, post-school welding experience is preferred over candidates with only school-based training. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a manufacturing facility that is heated but not fully climate controlled. Welders typically work independently in their own welding cell, with guidance available when needed. Standard working hours are 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, with overtime required only rarely. The employer provides key protective equipment, including steel-toe boots (with an annual allowance), safety glasses, and welding helmets, supporting a safe and professional work environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Dakota City, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $31.00/hr.
