Hours:
Generally 7am, but requires flexibility for training purposes. Many new hires start on evenings, the educator would need to flex to the shifts people are needing training on. + Must be Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) +
Additional Explination of Duties:
+ Lead onboarding, orientation, and training programs for Sterile Processing staff.
+ Develop and conduct competency validations, annual assessments, and skills evaluations.
+ Provide ongoing education related to sterilization, instrumentation, decontamination, and regulatory requirements.
+ Collaborate with Surgical Services to improve point-of-use instrument care and compliance.
+ Conduct audits, identify performance gaps, and implement corrective education plans.
+ Coordinate training for new equipment, instrumentation, and process changes.
+ Maintain education records, competency documentation, and certification tracking.
+ Serve as a mentor and resource for staff development and certification preparation.
+ Support regulatory readiness and compliance with AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, CMS, and manufacturer IFU standards.
+ Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, instrument quality, and operational excellence.

Barnes-Jewish West County Central Sterile Processing Department provides a service that is an integral part of the quality of care that we provide for our patients. We ensure the integrity and sterility of our products and services for our customers. We control all parts of the sterilization process: decontamination, prep & pack, documentation of sterilization records, and sterile storage.

- Role Purpose
- Creates and implements staff education and professional development activities and programs related to Sterile Processing new hire on-boarding, annual competencies, and certification.
Works with Leadership and Quality Assurance Coordinators to develop an education plan to reduce errors and improve department outcomes. Evaluates and updates education material to remain in accordance with changing recommendations in AAMI standards.
- Responsibilities
- + Collaborates with staff and representatives of other organizations to develop, present and or evaluate clinically focused training, and continuing education.
+ Assess, plans, implements and evaluates ongoing educational activities and programs for sterile processing technicians.
+ Daily hands on training of new hires and preceptors to ensure consistency and high quality outcomes.
+ Participates in activities that promote safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Collaborates with Periop leadership to develop, review and update CSPD policies and procedures. Participates in professional development and lifelong learning.
+ Collaborates with leadership to assess the educational needs of the staff and develops appropriate education plan and standard work documents.
