To Be Determined Job Description Position Network Administrator•12-Month Position Department•Technology Reports to Chief Technology Officer Education (at least one of the following) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Preferred CCNA, Network+ or other similar certifications Experience Experience with configuration and management of an enterprise class wireless system Experience with configuration and management of an enterprise class VoIP system Experience with servers, switches, routers, firewalls, VoIP, etc. Purpose To manage the installation and maintenance of local area networks and data communication equipment to protect the security of the network, to ensure data integrity and retention of the district's systems, and to maintain high-availability of the network for students and staff Essential Functions Design, configure, and maintain the school district's network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, VoIP, VPNs, and WAN. Monitor and troubleshoot network performance, ensuring optimal speed, reliability, and security across all campuses. Ensure the district's network is compliant with relevant cybersecurity policies and best practices, including regular security assessments, updates, and patches. Support and manage district-wide wireless systems and internet access for staff and students5 Collaborate with IT staff to implement software and hardware solutions that meet the needs of the district. Provide technical support for network-related issues and assist in the resolution of connectivity problems. Configure and maintain email servers, DNS, DHCP, and other essential network services. Maintain detailed network documentation, including topology, configuration settings, and system updates. Assist with the installation and configuration of network hardware for new buildings or facility upgrades. Ensure network security by managing firewalls, performing regular vulnerability scans, and implementing security protocols. Provide training and support for staff on network usage and best practices for security and data protection. Stay up-to-date with the latest network technologies and trends, advising on upgrades or new implementations when necessary. Computer Systems Assist school personnel in installing software. Set and enforce security and software restriction policies on network computers in accordance with best practices. Identify Network Security considerations and make recommendations to mitigate concerns Respond to issues that arise outside of normal business hours as necessary Assist with other Technology and Information Management Department responsibilities as assigned. Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Technology Officer. Make recommendations on network equipment used, configuration, policies and bandwidths used throughout the district. Provide information used to plan budgets. Professional Growth and Development Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics Secure advanced training in any new equipment, software being considered for adoption by the District. Special Knowledge and Skills Familiarity with local area network topologies, wiring schemes, and operating systems. Knowledge of network configurations. Knowledge of data communication equipment and terminology. Knowledge of network configuration, setup, and administration (VLAN, switches, routers, Wireless devices, etc.). Knowledge of wireless technology configuration and management. communicate with school personnel, systems staff, and computer technicians. Work Environment The environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May be required to work after school and weekends. Equipment Used Network equipment, fiber and CAT6 cabling, switches, routers, wireless access points, servers, network monitoring software, fiber splicing and testing tools.
