Job Description

Job Summary Sterling Engineering & Fabrication, a custom steel fabricator, is searching for the perfect candidate to fill an integral position in our plant. The ideal machine operator is an individual who has a strong work ethic and a keen eye for detail. They should be mechanically and technologically inclined and possess exceptional deductive reasoning skills. The environment we have cultivated here makes open positions at our company rare. Responsibilities Operate and monitor machinery, including laser cutting, CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, flexo presses, stamping presses, and press brake machines. Set up machines according to specifications, ensuring proper tooling and materials are used. Perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety. Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to understand production requirements. Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers to ensure product quality meets specifications. Conduct quality control checks throughout the production process to identify any defects or issues. Collaborate with team members on the assembly line for efficient workflow and materials handling. Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with 5S and safety regulations. Assist in the fabrication of components by using hand tools and applying basic math skills for measurements. Required Skills Intermediate computer skills Strong math skills (shop math) Superior communication skills Ability to use and properly read a tape measure Basic familiarity with hand tools Capable of distinguishing material types and thicknesses Exceptional attention to detail Work at a consistent pace as the schedule dictates. Ability to self-manage or work in a team Ability to lift over 50 lbs throughout a shift Problem-solving skills with a high degree of mechanical aptitude Consistent work history with no attendance issues. The candidate must possess reliable transportation. Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move over an 8-hour shift without issue Organized, with strong attention to detail and time management skills Quick learner. Desired Skills Proven experience in a manufacturing or machining environment is preferred. Ability to operate forklifts safely within a manufacturing facility is desirable. Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues effectively. Previous factory or warehouse experience is preferred, along with skills in packaging and materials handling. Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to quality control standards. Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment while also being self-motivated. •
