Pay Rate:
$25-$28 an hour (based on education and experience) Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Bookkeeper to manage the organization's day-to-day financial operations. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will play a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and providing the leadership team with accurate data to drive our mission forward. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of fund accounting, grant tracking, and the unique transparency requirements of the 501(c)(3) sector. Key Responsibilities 1. Financial Management & Data Entry Maintain the General Ledger in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit standards. Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring all transactions are coded to the correct functional expense categories (Programs, Management, and Fundraising). Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations. Manage payroll processing and ensure accurate allocation of labor costs across various grants/programs. 2. Grant & Fund Accounting Track restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure compliance with donor intent. Prepare financial reports for grant applications and post-award reporting. Monitor budget-to-actuals for specific projects and alert the CEO of significant variances. 3. Reporting & Compliance Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Statement of Activities, Statement of Financial Position). Assist the CEO and Treasurer in preparing the annual operating budget. Coordinate with external auditors for the annual audit and assist in the preparation of IRS Form 990. Ensure timely filing of state and federal payroll taxes and 1099s.
Qualifications Education:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of bookkeeping experience, specifically within the nonprofit sector.
Software Proficiency:
Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks Online (Nonprofit Edition) or similar ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, Blackbaud Financial Edge).
Skills:
• Strong understanding of net asset classes (With Donor Restrictions vs. Without Donor Restrictions). High proficiency in Microsoft Excel Ability to communicate complex financial data to non-financial staff/board members.
Core Competencies Integrity:
Absolute discretion when handling sensitive donor and employee information.
Precision:
An obsession with accuracy and "clean" books.
Adaptability:
