Job Description

Nurse Practitioner - Pediatric Obesity Medicine Empowering the next generation toward lifelong wellness. Southern Specialty Clinic is seeking a Pediatric Obesity Medicine Nurse Practitioner to lead our weight management and obesity medicine initiatives. This role is perfect for an NP who wants to move beyond quick visits and instead focus on comprehensive, evidence-based interventions that transform the health trajectories of children and their families. About Southern Specialty Clinic (SSC) SSC is a premier healthcare facility in Flowood, MS, integrating subspecialty care, clinical pharmacy, and research. Our Pediatric Obesity Medicine program specializes in evaluation for and treatment of abnormal weight gain and obesity. The program additionally includes evaluation for weight related co-morbidities and monitoring/treatment of some of those conditions. We believe that by combining medical expertise with empathetic care coordination, we can optimize outcomes for the youth of Mississippi. Roles and Responsibilities 1.
Weight Management Provider Comprehensive Assessment:
Evaluate and manage pediatric patients with metabolic concerns, including obesity, insulin resistance, and growth-related weight issues.
Education & Counseling:
Provide sensitive, non-stigmatizing counseling on nutrition and behavioral change. You will serve as a primary resource for families, utilizing an approach that that prioritizes patient well-being alongside physical health.
Program Quality Assurance:
Actively lead and participate in quality improvement projects to refine clinical workflows, enhance patient safety, and improve health outcomes. 2.
Collaborative Clinical Practice Multidisciplinary Teamwork:
Partner closely with the collaborative physician, clinical pharmacists, and outside providers to provide a "unified care" experience.
Shared Responsibility:
Participate in a collaborative on-call rotation to support patient needs outside of standard clinic hours.
Clinical Research:
Contribute to research projects focused on pediatric metabolic trends and the efficacy of weight management interventions.
Qualifications Licensure:
Current Nurse Practitioner license (CPNP or FNP-BC) in good standing with the Mississippi Board of Nursing.
Experience:
A strong interest or background in Pediatric Primary Care, Nutrition, Endocrinology, Metabolic Medicine, or Obesity Medicine preferred.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in documenting within an EHR (experience with EPIC is preferred).
