Job Description

Position Summary Just Kids New Suffolk is seeking a full time compassionate and collaborative Occupational Therapist to support students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade within an autism support program. The Occupational Therapist will provide both push-in and pull-out services designed to enhance students' participation, independence, sensory regulation, fine motor development, social engagement, and access to the educational environment. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing and sensory integration prir ciples, emotional regulation, and early childhood development. The OT will work closely with teachers, speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, behavior specialists, paraprofessionals, and families to support student success across classroom and therapy settings.
Essential Responsibilities Direct Student:
Services Provide occupational therapy services through push-in classroom support and pull-out individual/small-group sessions.
Address goals related to:
Fine motor and visual motor skills Handwriting readiness Self-help and ADLS Sensory regulation Attention and engagement Play and social participation Motor planning and coordination Implement evidence-based interventions tailored to students with autism spectrum disorders. Support student independence and participation within the school environment. Sensory and Regulation Support Assess and address sensory processing needs across vestibular, proprioceptive, tactile, visual, auditory, and interoceptive systems Develop and implement sensory supports and sensory diets as appropriate Collaborate with staff to create sensory-friendly classroom environments Support emotional regulation, transitions, attention, and coping strategies Collaboration, Evaluation & Documentation Collaborate regularly with teachers, speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, BCBAs/behavior specialists, school psychologists, and families Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions Conduct evaluations and re-evaluations Develop measurable IEP goals and progress reports Maintain timely and accurate documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines Provide consultation regarding adaptive equipment, accommodations, and environmental modifications Required Qualifications Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program Current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist (or pending) Experience wo -king with children with autism spectrum disorders preferred Knowledge of special education procedures and IEP development Preferred Skills & Qualities Strong understanding of sensory processing/integration, autism spectrum disorders, executive functioning, emotional regulation, motor planning, praxis, and early childhood development Experience implementing sensory supports in classroom settings Familiarity with AAC supports Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Patient, flexible, creative, and relationship-focused approach with students and families Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout classrooms and therapy spaces Ability to lift, position, and support young children as needed Ability to engage in floor play, movement activities, and sensory-motor interventions
