Job Description

Volunteer Firefighter City of Tahlequah; OK Tahlequah, OK 74464 Full-time, Volunteer Full-time, Volunteer Job Description Perform a variety of tasks, including shift supervision, necessary to maintain and improve the general condition and efficient operation of the Tahlequah City Fire Department for the protection of the city and its residents from fire and other disasters and catastrophes. This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and employee and is subject to change as the needs of the employer and the requirements of the job change.
Classification:
This is a safety sensitive position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act and/or Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. As a safety sensitive classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
Job Responsibilities Essential Job Functions:
Current duties include; but are not limited to: Station cleaning. Lawn and yard maintenance. Starting; inspection; cleaning and maintenance of apparatus and equipment. Training. Public education classes; tours; inspections (if qualified); observation of hydrant testing. Physical training at the station. Routine paperwork. Other duties as assigned Facilities maintenance to keep fire station and grounds properly maintained. Other tasks and duties may be assigned to the employee by the Chief or Assistant Chief that are not included in this job description but that have traditionally been performed by full time fire fighters both routinely and in emergencies. Understanding of and adherence to the City of Tahlequah's Policies and Procedures Manual. Receives and relays fire calls and alarms. Operates radio and other communications equipment. Respond promptly to emergencies. Drive fire department equipment on emergency runs. Hook up hoses and operate pumps and related equipment as needed at fire scene. Under certain circumstances; lays hoses and performs fire combat containment and extinguishment tasks. Performs emergency aid activities including administering first aid and providing other assistance as required. Presents programs to the community and schools on fire prevention and related emergency topics. Community relations. Assists in developing plans for emergency operations; hazard communications; firefighting; and hazardous materials containment. Maintain close communications with your immediate supervisor; the Chief and Assistant Chief. Work to develop those working relationships. Work to improve your skills and develop your abilities in your job through continuing education and required additional training. Education and/or Experience High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred. Certificates; Licenses; Registrations Must possess a valid Oklahoma Class "D" Driver's License. Other Qualifications Must be 18 years of age. Must successfully complete required drug testing and physical examination per City of Tahlequah's policies. Have and maintain a driving record sufficient to satisfy the insurance mandates placed upon the city. Must have had no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history within the past seven years. Must pass a background check. Establish employment eligibility under USDOL and City of Tahlequah rules and policies. Must be capable of wearing and functioning in full bunker gear and respirator. Must live and reside within six and one half (6 1/2 ) mile radius not to exceed the Cherokee County limits of the fire station located at 125 East Chickasaw during your employment. Pass a state pension physical agility exam. Pass a state required physical exam Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to perform strenuous or peak physical effort during emergencies; training or station maintenance activities for prolonged periods of time under conditions of heights; intense heat; cold and smoke Climbing; balancing; stooping; reaching; crawling; crouching; walking; fingering; pushing; pulling; lifting; grasping; talking and hearing are all demanded in the job. The job is considered "Medium Work" but can be heavy at times. Level Two Visual Acuity. Good sense of smell is required. Good hearing is important in this job. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. ~During emergency response situations; the work can be demanding and dangerous. There can be exposure to toxic vapors; smoke; intense heat exploding objects; falling objects; outdoor weather extremes and a variety of other unexpected conditions.
