SCOPE OF WORK
Oceanside Museum of Art is looking for a positive, hardworking individual to join our staff as an on-call Gallery Preparator. This position is responsible for exhibition installations and artwork transportation.

Varies depending on experience, starting at $20/hr
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accountable for physical movement of artwork, crates, large boxes, pedestals, and other gallery furniture Pack artwork into crates for shipment and unpack when artwork is received Removing installed artwork Wrapping artwork for transportation Wall preparation: Patching and repairing, sanding repairs, and painting entire surfaces to industry standards.
Pedestal preparation:
Painting and bringing into the gallery from basement storage Positioning artwork in the galleries in preparation for the exhibition curator to review 2D artwork hanging and 3D artwork positioning/securing Lighting Hanging vinyl lettering Purchasing supplies when necessary (all expenses must first be approved and will be reimbursed/petty cash will be distributed prior to purchase.) Assist with the preparation, fabrication, and finishing of certain elements in art pieces for installation Support with audio/visual equipment and installations, including projections, media players, speakers, headphones, Bright Sign etc.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrates good knowledge of standard museum procedures with an emphasis on two- and three-dimensional art/object handling, packing, and crating Familiarity with standard industry materials, processes, equipment, and safety protocols Familiarity with presentation technology such as media players, digital programming display, audio systems, and projectors Proficiency in light carpentry, interior painting, and graphics application Operate comfortably on ladders and working overhead. Knowledge and experience with battery operated drills and other hand tools, as well as moving equipment such as dollies, lifts, pallet-jacks, and material carts. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs Good hand/eye coordination is required, and adept use of hands to safely handle and move collection objects according to the most current approved museum standards. Must be able to work as part of a team and have good communication skills and maintain professional working relationships with all staff
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
