GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
Under limited direction, the Operations Director supervises the acquisition, production, and scheduling of a variety of local and nationally-produced programming, using multiple production and distribution software platforms. The Operations Director is a key member of the KCCK leadership team. The Operations Director assists in the planning, production and execution of KCCK jazz education and community programs, as well as interacting with station listeners, members, and the general public at community and music events. The typical work schedule will be Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm with occasional staffing KCCK events and programs outside of business hours. Please submit an air check with application.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise the acquisition, production, and scheduling of local and nationally-produced programming. Understand all broadcasting and production infrastructure and systems to be able to troubleshoot issues as they arise. Update and promote station and individual programs and activities using social media, blogging and other tools as necessary. Record, write, edit and produce pre-recorded programs or program elements as needed. Occasional or regular hosting and production of an on-air jazz or blues radio show. Take a leading role in planning and producing community outreach activities, including but not limited to educational projects, live concerts, and public appearances. Maintain compliance with FCC broadcast regulations, including maintenance of KCCK Public File. Communicate equipment and technical needs of KCCK to Kirkwood's broadcast engineering staff, and communicate production and programming needs to station manager as appropriate. As part of the leadership team of KCCK, work with supporters, volunteers and others in building and developing the station to meet changing financial and industry trends. Perform other related work duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Be able and willing to represent the College and KCCK in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers, community leaders, newsmakers and the community we serve. Must be self-motivated. Must be willing to work in a team-based environment. Must be familiar with broadcast equipment and its proper use as well as facility with digital audio applications, pro and consumer. Live sound production and software experience a plus. Knowledge of the ENCO automation system preferred. Be a creative, energetic individual with strong public and human relations abilities, professional attitude and motivation. Must show proficiency or potential in staff management. Proficiency with commonly-used office software applications. Must be able to represent KCCK and the college in a positive manner at public events. Must be able to support and mentor professional staff and students to develop their skills and talents in broadcasting and a professional work environment. Must have superior writing and editing skills. Be available for on-call duties on nights and weekends, to support staff who have questions or problems. Must be available to help with station events and education programs outside of normal business hours. Conduct activities in the office in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with department and College objectives, guidelines, policies and practices. Must have a valid driver's license and own transportation to travel to station events and off-site programming activities. Must be willing to work other than 8:00AM
  • 5:00PM, Monday-Friday, as required.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors Degree and academic study in one of the following: business, communications, public relations, language, music history or management. Thorough knowledge of radio station equipment operation, including production and recording software platforms. Five years of full-time radio broadcasting or equivalent with experience in announcing, production and music selection/programming. A proven interest in community service, audience relations/public relations events is desired. Background and/or knowledge of jazz and related music genres. Live sound production experience is helpful. Strong social media and public appearance skills Strong demonstration of leadership and organizational skills Must be able to obtain any required broadcast licenses.
