Job Description

Job Title:
2nd Shift Operator Technician (Pathway to Maintenance Technician) Job Description This role starts as a Finish Technician on 2nd shift, where you set up and operate finishing machines, respond first to machine malfunctions, and support production by keeping equipment running safely and efficiently. You will troubleshoot issues, perform basic repairs, and then partner closely with a Maintenance Technician to resolve more complex problems, giving you a clear pathway to grow into a Maintenance Technician role. You will also coach other operators on proper machine use to prevent repeat errors and help maintain a smooth, efficient operation in a demanding production environment. Responsibilities Set up finishing machines at the start of and throughout the shift to ensure they run efficiently and produce quality output. Serve as the first responder to machine malfunctions within the assigned department, quickly assessing and addressing issues to minimize downtime. Troubleshoot mechanical issues on equipment such as hydraulic and pneumatic pumps, spray guns, hoses, spray booths, conveyors, elevators, ovens, sealers, sanders, belts, pulleys, brushes, motors, bearings, valves, and rollers. Perform basic repairs and adjustments within your scope, and escalate to a Maintenance Technician after you have worked through logical troubleshooting steps. Partner closely with Maintenance Technicians during troubleshooting and repair activities to learn and expand your maintenance skills for future advancement. Monitor all equipment in your designated department throughout the shift, proactively identifying potential problems before they cause downtime. Educate and guide machine operators on proper machine operation, error prevention, and best practices to reduce repetitive machine errors. Communicate professionally and promptly over radio and in person to respond to calls, share updates, and coordinate with production and maintenance teams. Apply preventive maintenance practices as directed, including basic inspections, cleaning, and minor adjustments to keep machines in good working order. Use logical, step-by-step problem-solving methods to identify root causes of equipment issues and implement effective solutions. Demonstrate a customer service mindset by treating production as your internal customer, listening to concerns, explaining technical issues, and helping meet production needs. Work overtime and assist in other areas of the facility when needed to support overall production demands. Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and adherence to lockout/tagout (LOTO) practices when applicable. Perform physically demanding tasks, including working in high heat and safely maneuvering heavy stain barrels using provided techniques.
