Job Description
Company Overview Clavenna Vision Institute has been serving the Birmingham community for more than 40 years, providing comprehensive ophthalmology and optometry services. Specializing in cataract surgery, LASIK, glaucoma management, and advanced contact lens fitting, the practice is well-known for its patient-centered care and long-standing reputation. Position Summary Clavenna Vision Institute is now hiring for an Ophthalmic technician/Scribe that will support a high-volume ophthalmic practice that focuses on providing quality and compassionate care to each patient needing complete eye care services. This person will be working Monday
Review patient record prior to examination to anticipate procedures and supplies or equipment that may be needed.
Transcribe the results of patient examinations in the medical record as the physician orally dictates during the patient exam.
Promote patient education and compliance by providing patients both verbal and written instructions regarding medications and treatment. Answer patient questions and follow up with the patient as needed.
Assist with the maintenance of clinic flow and patient care.
Escort patients to appropriate areas including reception, dilating room, procedure rooms and surgical scheduling.
Assist physician by obtaining supplies as needed during patient care and assisting during minor procedures while maintaining practice standards of sterile technique and infection control.
Responsible for the care, maintenance, and inventory of clinical areas and equipment.
Demonstrate compliance with all provisions of safety rules and other policies and procedures.
Check expiration of medications and supplies and follow-up as appropriate and in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
Properly operate common ophthalmic equipment including, but not limited to: Humphrey Visual Fields (HVF), Photos, A-Scans, Heidelberg Retinal Tomographies (HRT), Endothelial Cell Counts, Corneal Pachymetries, and Optical Coherence Tomographies (OCT).
Knowledge of ophthalmology, optometry, and/or healthcare is required.
At least two years of medical office experience, preferably in ophthalmology, is preferred.
Experience and demonstrated proficiency with utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR) is required.
Completion of Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC)Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Demonstrate self-motivation, initiative and time management skills.
The ability to effectively communicate information and ideas both verbally and in written format.
Ability to work independently but also to work effectively with others as a team to accomplish objectives and goals.

Qualifications Skills and Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED required.Knowledge of ophthalmology, optometry, and/or healthcare is required.
