Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting K-12 students as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist or as a combined O&M/VI professional. This unique assignment begins August 3, 2026, and continues through May 28, 2027. With a flexible structure—either one combined practitioner serving both disciplines or two separate specialists—you'll serve a low caseload (up to 4-6 students) and provide expert guidance to help students with visual impairments gain confidence and independence. Enjoy the chance to make a meaningful impact through up to 8 hours of service per month for each role, or 16 hours monthly if fulfilling both O&M and VI duties. You'll collaborate with educators and families to deliver tailored services that empower students in their academic and daily lives.
Qualifications and Skills:
Certification in Orientation and Mobility and/or Vision Impairment (required) Experience working with children or adolescents, especially students K-12 Strong communication abilities for effective collaboration with staff, students, and families Adaptable, professional approach and a commitment to excellence in educational support
Key Responsibilities:
Assess, plan, and implement instruction to support orientation, mobility, and independent travel for students with visual impairments Collaborate with other educational professionals to develop and update individualized educational plans (IEPs) Document progress and provide feedback to parents, staff, and the educational team Travel to assigned school sites as needed within the contracted hours You'll be joining a dedicated group of professionals in a supportive educational environment, where your expertise will be valued and your role deeply impactful given the intimate caseload.
